Hair colour

Does anyone know if it's safe to colour your hair whilst breastfeeding?

I'm wondering this - on the one hand I've read around and there is a body that says its fine, then on the other hand I read they are full of all kinds of stuff including heavy metals that have been detected in your urine 40 minutes after dye application and so are likely to get into your milk.

Someone on another forum even commented that it was such a selfish vain thing to do when bfing. Hey Ho.

Anyway I have a serious quantity of grey coming through now (too much to pick out!) and I found an organic dye on ebay called Aubrey Organics and was wondering if anyone had tried it/heard of it or has read any definitive evidence regarding dye and bfing?

both my hairstylist (who is also my sister in law) and my doctor have said it is fine while pregnant and breastfeeding - if you're doing it yourself just make sure you do it in a well ventilated area

I personally wouldn't do it but I'm quite conservative about these sort of things. I refuse to take any sort medicine either while breastfeeding even when I was SUPER sick.

I have a friend that does hair for a living and she breastfed throughout and she is actually in a salon all day breathing in those chemicals so really it's just a judgement call.

Hi there,
I'm just about to go have my highlights done. I discussed it with my hairdresser before hand, and we are using no bleach and an organic dye. In addition, she wont be touching my scalp or going as close to it (so yes, will see the roots a little earlier). As for breathing in the fumes etc, I am going to make the effort to either sit next to an open window, or ask to sit closer to the door etc....
Everyone has to make their own decisions, but I would encourage you to discuss it with your doctor/mw/hairdresser to see if there are some alternative products that may work for you
