am worrying and getting a little upset

Hi (again!)

DD is teething at the moment, and in the last couple of days it's really kicked in. She's currently using anything and everything as a teething ring (other than her teething rings!) and is a bit cranky.

Thing is, this means two things - one that she's feeding a bit less. Again. Not what I needed after the ear ache

Also means she's taken to using me as a teething ring. OW!

How do I discourage her from biting (which is pretty painful!) without putting her off feeding? Any ideas?

Am just fretting as I really, really want her to gain some weight this week

My poor little love!

Argh what a pickle to be in. I unlatch him when he bites then let him back on. Have you tried Bonjela? They say not to use it x many minutes before breastfeeding but it's never affected his latch. I give it to him 10-15mins before a feed and it seems to help

firstly unlatch by putting your finger in and loosening the grip, dont try unlatch by just taking off cos that will really hurt you.
secondly before feeds try a painkiller ( when its really bad), or numbing medication like a gel, but you need to do it like a while before the feed or she wont be able to feed with the numbing gel.
its not a nice stage, i remember my son did it too.

thanks ladies - I'll try out your suggestions. She bit so hard earlier, I was seriously having to bite my own lip, as I don't want to shock her by jumping or exclaiming! She's trying everything as a potential teether...but doesn't like her actual teething rings, lol!

I reallllllllllly was hoping for a more 'back to normal' feeding week - hopefully we can still get some of that!

The only teether Thomas is really able to get his little mouth around is his Sophie the giraffe that he got for Xmas. He can't seem to manage actual teething rings. He has clamped down on the boob a few times - it is SORE! I generally just take him off and let him bite my finger for a minute before putting him back on if he's still hungry.

Hope she does manage to gain a bit of weight this week - but weight gain isn't everything, once she's happy and healthy and not actually losing weight then she is fine really.

same as what everyone else had said really, teethy gel before a feed, when she bites unlatching and putting her down for a few seconds so she knows when she bites the milk will stop. You could also try pulling her into the breast when she bites, so she has to open her mouth to breath, obvously not to suffocate her but just enough to make her stop biting. x

When is she biting love? At the beginning or at the end? If its at the beginning, I would give her a finger to chomp on first then latch. If it is at the end, she is probably finished, and I would watch for her to stop actively sucking and then remove her. Brenn was a biter as well. I also found that when he bite me, I would de-latch him and put him down, and he quickly learned that biting me means no booby and not being held.

thank you ladies, feel a lot better

She is biting at the end, but I've been trying to elongate her feeds!

I'll just follow her lead, and use some of your suggestions - may also find a Sophie the Giraffe! Where did you find her, P?

Sorry if I sounded like a worrier - I get a bit upset when I see her struggling with those teething pains!!

Got her on amazon on the recommendation of someone else on here, she's not the cheapest teething toy in the world but she has so many bits sticking out that baby can hold on to while getting a good chew of her other bits!
