herbal teas to increase supply of milk

Hi girls,
just wanted to pass on something that I thought you might find useful. In Germany where I come from you can buy a variety of herbal teas called 'stilltee' (breastfeeding tea) which contains various herbs that are meant to increase the milk supply. I've not seen them over here yet, but apparently if you know the ingredients you can have them made up in healthfood shops. or you could buy them online. Weleda do a nursing tea I think. I bought a load in Germany a month ago so am sorted for myself

My friend sent some over for a friend of mine who started drinking it a few days before she had her premature c-section (she had a feeling she'd come early). The mw at the hospital told her not to expect any milk yet, but within a day she was able to pump out loads and was able to get her little girl who was still in SCBU fed solely by breastmilk. The mw's even asked for the ingredients of the tea afterwards as they'd never seen this before.

So I thought I'd share this with you. Some of the ingredients are: fennel, anise, caraway, lemon verbena.

I hadn't seen a mention of this in this forum, so just thought I'd mention it
xxx

I remember getting German stilltee through a tea swap a few years ago! I might still have it, actually, since I saved it for when I have a baby. Thanks for reminding me!

I bought some fennel tea from the pharmacy, thinking it might be useful. It's not advertised as BF tea (it's for digestion) but I guess the effects are the same.

Thanks for that!
I read that a few weeks ago that fennel tea increases supply but it was advised not to drink too much. Can't remember why tho. Lol. Will have another look. x
