"Poor baby, she's starving."

Yes, someone actually said that to me when Rachel was only 2 hrs old. I'm such a hormonal mess. It bugs me so much that I dread having ladies who have had kids visit me, EVERYONE has an opinion and I can't stand it anymore. And my baby isn't even a full 3 days old yet!

I just feel like telling ppl to get a life and leave me to my business. Obviously I wouldn't want my baby to go hungry. And if she does need more and I'm not able to provide for her, then I have no qualms over supplementing... but my goodness let me give it a chance.

Every single person at the hospital was encouraging and the lactation consultant was amazing. They told me to keep giving her my colostrum and that it wasn't (yet) necessary to top up. Also Rachel only lost 1 oz of her birth weight when we left 24 hrs later so they weren't concerned at all. By all accounts she is a happy baby.

I just wish some women were more supportive. [/rant over]

Aw i feel for you, stay strong and just have the confidence in yourself that your body will produce enough. I was exactly the same and nearly threw in the towel a few times due to peoples comments but percevered and we're still going 10 weeks on! I find that people who have no knowledge of breastfeeding have the opinion that it can't be enough but my chunky monkey is living proof it is, you just need to let it go in one ear and out the other. Are there any local bf groups you can go to? The bf experts there are so reassuring and will pick you up when you're having an off day. Obv your milk is still not yet established so lo will feed constantly to build up your supply and not because she's starving x

Ill always remember being in hospital when we'd had Belle. I was sharing a 2 bed ward with a mum who was FF & her baby took half a bottle of formula whilst my mil was visiting us.
The LC nurse was helping me hand express colostrum (sp) and I was feeding B with a syringe 1 ml at a time... mil kept making comments that Belle would be starving if compared to how much the other baby was taking We didnt actually 'get' BF until well over 3 days & never once considered formula... Just trust that your body knows what to do.

I managed to ignore her tho & we're proof that they dont starve! Still exclusively BF now & even tho mil still makes comments occassionally (ie everytime B cries mil thinks its cos shes hungry) I manage to ignore her. I know whats best for my baby and so do you - Youll find plenty of support here btw... & feel free to rant away! I know most of us have at times x

Stay strong hon!

If you read these boards you'll see just what stupidity is passed off as 'advice' some times. I know LO is teeny, but the best thing you can do is find your own answers because lots of loving well meaning people can really upset you with absolute nonsense.

You're doing great. It does take time.

More likely that the child fed from the bottle was having TOO MUCH, and you little baby's tummy (smaller than a thimble) wasn't being stuffed full and bloated...

That is why babies pile on weight at the end of pregnancy, to give them storage for after birth and before your milk come is. It is normal and natural an totally fine. UGH! some people just suck and have no idea.

Thanks everyone. I'm feeling so much better about it. I KNOW I'm doing the right thing for her, I just need to learn how to filter out unwarranted comments.

My milk has finally come in. I wasn't sure if I'd notice it or not but holy cow, it hurts. I also look like I had implants over night.

Thanks again.
