If you are exclusively breastfeeding, it is normal to only get 20-35ml at a time.

If you are only pumping, it can be higher, perhaps 75ml or more at a time.

A lot of women produce more, but many only can express a small amount.

Expressing isn't an indication of how much baby is getting from the breast.

Personally, when only expressing (not breastfeeding at all, young baby) I got about 100ml at a time (more in the morning, less as the day went on. Now, (baby is 10 months old) I get about 60ml, and I'm breastfeeding often.

Are you exclusively expressing?

I only pump a couple of times a day, usually first thing in a morning and early evening. Depending on how long its been since his last feed I get anything from 3-5oz in 20 mins. Only been doing this for about 2 weeks as well.

If I wait 2-3 hrs from when she last ate, I get 2.5oz in the evening or 4oz in the morning (pump for 15 mins). I've been pumping the same times for a couple weeks hoping it will increase, but it hasn't. She's 8 weeks old tomorrow.

I am full time BF but I am also pumping to exclusively feed another EBM as such I spent four days pumping very regularly (IE every hour 24 hours a day) to build my supply. At first I would get 1oz, then it dropped a little and I would get 0.5oz each time. However now I can get a good 6oz each time so I am slowly cutting back on the number of times I pump a day whilst being careful to pump enough to keep the production level up. Infact this morning I got almost 8oz but my LO has also just finnished a growth spurt so that helped boost my milk supply too.
So it has varied a heck of a lot and I had to put a hell of a lot of time and effort in so get my supply going but now I am pumping about 6 times, four or five in the day and one or two at night. I get less in the evening because my LO tends to cluster feed in the evening just before he starts sleeping for longer stretches (he starts to sleep longer around 7:30pm) so I try to express once around 5am, once around 9am, once around midday, once around 4pm and then I dont express again til ten/eleven pm.
I will get 6oz around 5am, 6oz around 9am, 4-5 around midday, 4 ish at 4pm and 6-9 at ten/eleven depending on if my LO has woken to feed or not (he often doesnt wake to feed til 1am now hes finnished his growth spurt which is making things easier) If I need more then I will pump one side whilst LO feeds at whatever time he wakes in the night but as the LO I am expressing for is only just over a week old it seems what I am expressing is plenty.
As said though, at first I wasnt getting more than 1oz at a time and had to go on a pumping marathon to increase supply.

I'm glad there isn't 'an answer' out there.
It's a really dangerous piece of information if it's taken out of context and a person assumes something is 'wrong' when it isn't.

Could you explain a little more about what you're comparing the average to?

I think every single person is different because i am able to get up to 8oz in 15 minutes and for this reason i donate my milk!
