Breast Feeding After Breast Reduction

Hi girls,

First of all; I adore the site and all the support and patience everyone has for each other. I've been WTT for a while now but feel the time is approaching.

One thing I've always wanted to do is breastfeed but I'm scheduled to have a breast reduction in two months. I've still to finalise things with my consultant but the prospect of not being able to breastfeed afterwards is really getting me down I know there are chances of it being possible, but basically I'm just asking if any of you ladies have experiences along these lines?

Any stories or advice would be great.

Hope I'm in the right place.

xxx

I have a friend who went through this and she went on to BF her daughter and she still is at 8+ months. It was difficult and painful at first, she says buy she just kept asking for help and support and she got there.

So, try not to worry about it, there's every chance you'll be just fine.

That is a tough situation to be in. Many women breastfeeding successfully a reduction, but many cannot produce enough milk. A lot depends on how the surgery is done.

I suppose you have to weigh up how important breastfeeding is, and how important and urgent the surgery is.

I've only known one Mum who had a reduction, and unfortunately she couldn't produce enough milk.

If you are unable to produce a full supply, it might be possible to combination feed for a while.

There are a couple of ladies here that have done it, I think. The one I know of for sure wasn't able to EBF. But she did all she could for as long as she could.

check this thread:

Anybody breastfeeding after reduction?

I am sure Adzuki would be happy to answer any questions you have. Just look her up and PM her!
