H couldn't open wide either, the only thing that worked for us were nipple shields - H latched on instantly when we tried them. Once you start using them it can be hard to stop (we managed to phase them out at about 8 weeks), but I think if it works, it is better than giving formula. The NHS don't seem to like them though!
