breastfeeding second time round...

Hi all,

I have a one year old girl and i am currently pregnant with my second. I tried breastfeeding first time round but Abby had a tight tongue tie so struggled to latch on... i ended up with cut nipples and in a lot of pain so i gave up after a couple of weeks but carried on expressing milk for a few months.

This time round i reeeeeally want to breasfeed but it remembering the pain is putting my off... also the tummy cramps in the first week were almost unbearable and i would cry at the thought of having to feed abby and arent they supposed to worse second time round?

basically i was hoping there are other women out there who werent successful first time round but managed with their second?

I dont want to give up before ive even started and finding the time to express with 2 kiddy winkles seems impossible....

The pains are the same, if not a bit worse, but right after my no meds births, I start popping the ibuprofin!! I take it for about the first week, and the after pains subside about that time. Also, if you can get some red raspberry leaf tea and take it after the birth too, that helps soooo much with shrinking the uterus back to size! Don't worry hon! You can do it.

I dont have the experience you have as I have BFed both mine. I did have problems with badly craked nipples last time and I too was a bit nervous about that pain this time but it wasnt as bad with Theo at all but I had laninsoh and used it right from the start and didnt wait for things to get sore so I think that helped a lot and would recommend it
As for afterpains, I dont remember feeling afterpains last time but I did this time, they werent horrendous though, I didnt take anything for them and it is kindof a welcome discomfort as it means your body is doing what its suposed too! I took RLT before and after birth and it made a difference to my birth and I am sure helped afterwards. Certainly a good idea to have some painkillers to hand just incase.
