anyone who has been prescribed domperidone

was your doctor happy to prescribe it or did you have to cause a fuss?
i'm in the process of relactating and started taking it yday (bought from boots) and already i haev seen a slight increase so i am delighted! considering 2 weeks ago i hadnt even started pumping and now im making an ounce every few hours, i think i've done quite well even though obviously i am nowhere near where i want to be.

anyway it is going to work out extremely expensive if i continue to buy motilium 10 pills so am going to go to my doctor on monday to ask for a prescription but i have heard a few people found their doctors to be unwilling to prescribe it.. do you think itll be easy to get?

My dr wasn't too happy but I got my hv and midwife to sort it out. It's because you are going to be taking it for a side effect and not what it is liscened for. That's why. Speak to your hv.

What has led you to want to take it? There are alternatives

My GP refused to prescribe it for me. Then again, she also hadn't heard of it

I'm also taking Fenugreek although I don't think that's doing anything really. Is there anything else I could try? I really don;t want to try loads of different herbal things as I just don;t feel they work well for me and I haven't really got the money to be honest.

Fenugreek is the other big thing to use. What dose are you taking of Fenugreek?

Do you smell like curry / maple syrup yet? The dose isn't high enough until you do!

It was the Outreach Midwives (post-NICU) who organised my domperidon, they simply faxed a recommendation letter to my GP.

My GP won't put it on repeat prescription, but is quite happy to issue a new prescrip every month without seeing me if I put in a request - weird.

Yes it helps if you can get another healthcare professional to recommend it to your GP, as some are very wary of prescribing it as it is a licensed medication but not licensed for the use you are using it for (if that makes any sense at all?! Think i even confused myself there for a minute! ) I work on a nicu and we often have to write letters for mums to take to their GP asking them to please prescribe the domperidone for lactation as sometimes just the mum going and asking herself she won't get anywhere

Hope you don't have too much trouble
