Ibuprofen?

The MW came round to see me this morning and she said that as my stitches are sore I should take ibuprofen as well as paracetamol to help bring the swelling down.

Is it okay to take when BFing though? Because I know it's not okay when pregnant. xx

The hospital told me to take this too. I read that you should avoid it when breastfeeding and asked my midwife. She said it was ok as long as i really needed it. I took it for first 10 days after birth. I was very sore and don't think I would have coped or continued bfing without it.

It's not like paracetamol where you can take it when you feel you need it, but it's safe to take it under the advice of your health professional so don't worry

I was on loads of ibuprofen after my c section... about 800 mg every 4 hours for several days... and then as needed after that. If you really need it, don't be afraid of it. Just don't use it unless you need it!

I took extra strength motrin (ibuprofen) every 6 hours for about a week after delivery, doctor and nurses all said it was fine and it was what they gave me in the hospital

Yep it's safe, I took it fairly often while nursing, I have terrible hips so pretty much any walking kills them

I've taking ibuprofen every 2 hours, paracetamol every other 2 hours (7am ibu, 9am para, 11am ibu, 1pm para etcetc) as i've got a episotomy and 2nd degree tear and my lo is bf like a professional. My home visit midwife and the ones in hospital told me to do that. Its better we heal quicker, bubba won't be effected by the drugs.
P.s since I started actively doing my pelvic floors my pain has literally vanished and it got soooo much better almost overnight so keep at the pelvic floors!!

Yes you can take it.
I tend to restrict what I would normally take if I can.
