Tummy bug or reaction to breastmilk?

Hi there

Emily is 9 1/2 months old and I have breastfed her from day one. Since introducing solids, I have gradually weaned her onto half bottle half formula. She currently has breakfast, lunch and dinner with 4 milk feeds a day.

Last night she was sick in her cot. I feel absolutely terrible about this as I only heard her cough a little bit, then I assumed she fell back asleep. She only started crying around 5am but I kind of left her to it as shes pretty good getting back to sleep on her own. Anyway, I went in there when the crying got worse to find that she'd had diarrhoea and had been sick. I gave her a bath and a few sips of water and shes now settled back down to sleep.

On Sunday evening I went out for a curry and I had a few mouthfuls of a very strong flavoured dish, could this be a reaction to this? I also know that my mother in law had the nonovirus tummy bug last week, theres so much going around at the moment.

So far this morning she has only drunk water. If it is a virus, I don't want to feed it. I could always dilute the milk with water or offer her a piece of toast maybe?

I've got Emily booked in to see the GP this afternoon but just wanted to run it by you guys first. Any ideas?

Thanks girls
Marisa

I would guess if you've been feeding for this long it prob isn't a reaction to your milk and most prob a bug. Keep feeding with water goodluck! X

Have just given Emily a tiny bit of toast and a small 4oz bottle half formula, half water. Will see how things go...

It sounds like a tummy bug to me. My LO what you've described week before last too, but was right as rain again by the next day.

Hope all goes well at docs.

Thanks. The GP said it is a tummy bug, poor thing. Shes eaten a couple of breadsticks and has had milk throughout the day so fingers crossed for tonight. She can only lie on her tummy as her bottom is so sore and red, bless her. I've used sudocrem and am giving her calpol every few hours to be on the safe side.
