I'd say something back like... "Well I was going to keep going until he starts secondary school, I guess it'd be just weird after that."
Would soon shut them up.

I swear my MIL near wet herself when she saw the lil bottles we give colief in... not to mention when she saw a bit of gum she mistook for a tooth

Do you mean she thinks you'll have to stop when her teeth come through Seraphim? I've said to my MIL that I will carry on bfeeding a bit after six months and she's totally dismissed it and said I won't be able to do that for sure when he has teeth. Nice and supportive there

People are all about the teeth aren't they?!

When OH's Dad and Stepmum visited when Toby was only a couple of weeks old she was telling me how- it would be "better when he is on the bottle", how i'd have to give up bf when he got teeth and how X (her Son's LO) was weaned at 4 months and on cows milk by god knows what age etc etc.

Plus my mum has told me the same story a couple of times now about a woman who was on the PN ward at the same time as her when she had 1 of my younger sisters who's baby was born with teeth and how she couldn't breastfeed because of it

I am trying to train myself to tune all the cr*p out as white noise but it isn't easy, at the minute it seems all i hear is: when will you stop breastfeeding, when are you going back to work, what about when he gets teeth, he'll be eating soon won't he, when are you going to wean, he can have something from a spoon soon, do you think he'd be better on the bottle, etc etc etc but i am hoping that in time all i will hear is blah blah blah blah blah!

Aisling's on her third tooth now and we're always getting the teeth comments too. I've also been told I'll be making a rod for my own back by continuing to bf after she got teeth - never quite worked that one out!

And the cost of formula, I know! We get the Hipp one because it comes in 2 separate sealed bags so the box lasts us 6 weeks but I still nearly choke every time! Only one more box, then it'll be cows milk in porridge

Hehe - one more comment about teeth from anyone and tell them you are stopping when the adult teeth come through because they will really hurt!!!!

...My goodness, I should really go back to bed - LO is not even feeding at the moment!

Loving this thread Rebaby!

I got a good one yesterday, thought those on this thread would appreciate it...Theo was weighed at 10lb2oz...much proud me for him having put on 1lb2oz in 15 days. I told MIL this (when she turned up on the doorstep unannounced...grrr) and she straight away says "Oh hes so big hes not going to be getting enough from your milk soon, would you like me to pick you up some hungry baby formula?" *eye twitch* I mean how the hell she work that one out? Its "MY" milk thats put the weight on him not fresh air so how come 'my' milk suddenly wont satisfy him just because hes putting weight on quickly?
Mind you the HV also had to ask three times how I was feeding him and also commented he was "putting weight on like a FF baby" ...thats nice...and? Dont think she believed me til I decided to feed him whilst she was sat there just to proove he was BF and I wasnt just saying it.

I know folk mean well, but argh! the ignorance is astounding! It's your milk that is putting the weight on him, and your milk will keep changing and adjusting to suit him as he grows so that he continues to thrive!
