second hand breast pumps?

would you buy / use a used breast pump if it was in good condition and you could sterilise all the parts? is there any problem with doing that?

I personally wouldn't unless it was hospital grade (then no milk can get into the motor). But a lot of the ladies here use second hand single-user breast pumps but with brand new tubes, flanges, shields etc.

We discussed it previously and OCD me was in the minority saying no.

I would use a good electric one used and buy the flange kit with the tubes etc... all new But I would prefer new, and all I did was buy two madela harmony manual breast pumps and use one (other is a backup incase the other one breaks) once a day It only cost me 65$ each and I love it, no noise, pumps quick and super easy to use A friend of mine bought a madela 3 in one pump for 160$ (ish) and it is so loud and slower than the manual (her words) so I am going to stick with my manual :P I also only pump once in the morning for an evening feed so I don't need anything too fancy

Anyways I believe I answered your question in the first two lines, lol... just me rambeling on now haha

I wouldn't - and haven't - had a problem with it. Both my Medela Mini and Medela Swing were second-hand, possibly even third-hand, I wouldn't know! I supplemented with new tubes & shields that I got from the hospital NICU when using their pump.

I bought my medela second hand and was told by the seller (on ebay) that it had only been used a few times - i believe this was true as it was in perfect condition. It saved us quite a lot of money. I think if you know it's not been used a lot (as sometimes the pumps can go) then it will be fine. It's not worth buying a really used one, for the £30 or so that you'd save it won't be in such good condition.

I have a second hand Avent breast pump so I obviously wouldn't mind!
