Medela pumps confusion.

The pump I'm using right now (only twice) is a little painful and am thinking of getting the medela as everyone recommends it so much if the pain doesn't get better.

Wondered what the difference was between the mini pump and the swing and the double phase?

Also, my cousin in law said she used a double medela pump (in the USA) but the only double I can seem to find is the double mini (under £100) or the very expensive double "freestyle" (over £200!!!).

I might just go with the swing as it seems the most popular but having spent money on a breast pump already I don't want to waste money getting the wrong one again!

The "Mini" has adjustable suction, controlled by rotating a dial, so you can start softly and then increase the power (strength but not speed). But the suction motor sits on the top/back of the shield, so it's heavy to hold up to your boob for a length of time. I did like mine, but it was so NOISY!!!

The "Swing" has adjustable suction, controlled by buttons on the base unit. It also has what they call "two phase expression", where it pumps rapidly for the first two minutes to initiate letdown before automatically switching over to a slower pump speed. You can sit the motor unit beside you (or even hang it from a loop) and only need to hold the shield & tube up to your boob, so it's lighter. It's also quieter that the Mini.

The "Mini Plus" double appears to have a separate motor unit, but I don't know if it has the two-phase suction pattern or not.

I went with the Swing, mainly because I couldn't afford anything more.
