Help! Breatfed baby slept through now wakes up every 2 hours!

Hi girls!

I really don't know what to do and if I won't get much more sleep soon Ill go nuts!

My baby boy slept through (well, 4-6 hours at a time) right from the start. But during last week he started to wake up every bleeping 2 hours.

He goes to sleep at 9.30, then wakes up at 11-11.30, then 2, then 4, then 6 and then 8.

I tried giving him dummy, but he spits it out and wants boob. And he never has a long feed. Usually his feeds lasts anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes. In the night mostly 10. And then he just falls asleep on the boob.

I though he might not be getting enough during the day, so after a few feeds I tried to give him expressed milk in the bottle but he didn't want it. So obviosly he has enough...

He will be 3 months old soon.

Does anybody has any advise?

xxxx

My daughter did this all last week. Exhausting! I mentioned it to the midwife and she said its cluster feeding and they mostly do it when going through growth spurts. My LO is only a little over 3 week old tho so it maybe different around 3 months.

Hope that helps. x

Could it be a growth spurt? IIRC, then there is one around 12 weeks. That would explain why he seems to want to bf but seems to be getting enough milk. I liked to think of these feeds as my baby putting her order in in advance to make sure I was producing enough. It helped most of the time.........

If it is a growth spurt, it should settle down again soon.

Yup, 3 month growth spurt. Give it a few days and see if it settles down.

Has he started doing anything new developmentally recently - Ryan developed good hand control around 3 months and learned to lift his head up while on his tummy. Anything new like that can cause night waking and he might just need a few extra calories in the day to get him through the night.

If it hasn't started to improve in a week or so maybe post again for advice - but I agree it sounds like a growth spurt. Try to rest as much as you can when you do get a chance

Adi only eats every 2 hours at night when he's having a growth spurt. It's usually 3-4, and recently he's been going 5 1/2 hours after he goes down for the night without waking to nurse. The last 3 nights have sucked. He's been up every 2 hours hungry and wanting to pee, and he screams bloody murder if I'm not quick about it. And, though I haven't been keeping watch of the time, I feel like he's nursing ALL DAY. It doesn't bother me, as he only takes about 10 minutes to eat, but my nipples are sore now.

Guess we're both going through the 3 month spurt.
