Hello all.......... I have a 8week baby daughter and ive breastfed her since she was born ....... she feeds every hour through night and day.. she wont sleep at night is this normal for breastfed babies? as im so tired now. also ive pumped milk tried her on a bottle just so my husband could help at night so i can catch up on some sleep but she refuses a bottle.. is there anyway that she will take a bottle?.......... Soooo tired!!!!!!!!!!

i have a son that im breast feeding he's 4months old and for about the first 6 weeks he was like that always feeding think it was a comfort thing gave him a dummy and now he sleeps between 8-11 hours at night and goes 3-4 hours through day for feeds. 8 weeks is still young she should sort herself out soon! do you offer both sides to make sure she's full? and are you trying a bottle that mimics breastfeeding?

Oh I remember those days well. My DS refused the bottle till he was about 5 months old. I tried every bottle going too. I almost had to starve him one day to get him to take it. I knew I had to get him on the bottle as he was going to nursery when he was 6 months. It was really tough but he got there eventually. He just liked boobie too much. But yeah, I felt like I'd never sleep again. And I wish I had a miracle solution for you. In the afternoons I would feed him lying down and we'd both get some sleep - and I started doing that for some night feeds too - it was my saviour - especially when I went back to work.
I was advised to ensure he'd emptied the breast before moving to the next one as the first bit of milk -the hindmilk is more of a thirst quencher than a filler-upper

I agree, feeding lying down in bed is the best coz you can sleep while they feed themselves. One of the best things about co-sleeping lol

Yeah, and they get very adept at shifting your nighty or whatever to get at the booby themselves in the night. (can cause embarassment on buses and wot-not tho hehe)

Can you remember in the early days thinking you'll both never get the hang of it - and then before you know if you reckon you could do it hanging upside down while building a wall.

Right, are they completely emptying the breast? As if they get just foremilk, and little or no hindmilk then they will get hungrier much quicker... Also have you had the latch checked? It could be they're not getting enough out due to a bad latch.

Who tried her on the bottle you or your husband? If it was you, get your husband to try and go into another room. Also what bottles?

Also are you intouch with a BF advisor? Are you located in the UK, I could put you intouch with an organisation to help you....

she was comfort sucking a lot in the beginning and it only started to stop around now, that she doesn't want to comfort suck during the day anymore!

as well, in the beginning her night started at five o'clock in the morning!

I teached her night and daytime by turning the lights and sounds down in the evening and spoke only little and with low voice to her, whereas at daytime I moved around with her a lot!

yeah I did that too. We gave DS bath at same time just made everything a lower pace. It took a while - made harder because we were living with my mum in one room so we had to continue the rest of our day while convincing him his day had ended! (thank goodness for Sky plus!! - lol) A bed time routine was the only routine I tried to adhere to - hoping it would make life easier in the long run. I have to say that we have no problem getting him down at night. No fights or anything. Doesn't mean he stays that way tho.. But it means we get a few hours of uninterrupted adult time and it is a true blessing.
