They recommend not before 17 weeks.... and DoH recommendations is 6 months!

Personally I am planning rice and EBM in a couple of weeks, due to LO sticking everything he can in his mouth and licking his lips when he smells things. Although I won't be forcing the issue!

Yeap it's recommended exclusively breastfeed till 6 months http://www.llli.org/FAQ/bflength.html.
I've tried in 6...he wasn't interested. So i've repeated at 7 months with greater success.
So yes everyone is different.

Our HV recommends between 4-6months but says the closer to 6 months the better. We're trying to hold out a bit longer but I think LO is almost ready so we might not make it quite to 6months.

We let C have finger foods at 6 months, we didn't bother with puree's or baby rice or anything.

Yep, 6 months is the official recommendation so the closer you can get to that the better. If LO is satisfied on milk alone then there's no reason at all to move on to solids earlier without HV or doctor recommending weaning for a specific medical reason. Many people mistake the massive growth spurt at 4 months as a sign that LO is no longer satisfied on milk and needs more but that usually tails off after a week or so.

We're starting BLW tomorrow (6months). He's been hinting/stealing food etc. since about 4months but I saw no need as he's more than thriving on breastmilk.
