Pumping After Returning To Work

I was just thinking about some questions about BF'ing with my other 2 kids before I learned of BNB. I plan to exclusively BF baby #3 and will return to work after 8-10 weeks. How often should I be pumping during a 12 hour shift? I used to pump 2 or 3 times but I would only bring home 4-6oz, which was only enough for 2 feeds. Any advice? Thanks!

Firstly congrats! Next, I wish you luck with pumping and working full time. Its HARD. I'd recommend talking to your employer about it probably before you leave for maternity leave. I'd discuss where you will be able to pump, how frequently, and where you can store your milk. For a breastfeeding mother, its a physical need to pump frequently. I work 8.5 hrs, and I pump approx every 2 hours. I was given my own office that I can use whenever I need to to pump, and was advised to store my milk in the fridge in our break room. Its not easy, and I'm constantly asking my husband throughout the day how much Carter is eating to make sure I'm pumping enough, but its working so far. I also feed Carter on one side right before I leave for work, and pump the other side, and the same when I get home. I think the most important thing is emptying your breasts frequently so you keep producing enough milk. Good luck with pumping, I think with determination you can do it.

Thanks BurtonBaby! I work at the hospital here and we have a pump room on the mother/baby unit where we can go to pump. I pumped with my other 2 after returning to work but just wasn't sure if I was pumping often enough.
