anyone else's bubs look uncomfortable and cry during feedings? not sure what to do. about to give up as she doesn't seem to enjoy it at all.

There are quite a few reasons why she could be unhappy, but it's hard to tell without more information. Has she always seemed unhappy when feeding or is this a new thing? Does she cry at the beginning of a feed, all the way through or at the end? Do you always hold her in the same position? Is she generally happy in between feeds? Sorry to bombard you with questions, but hopefully with a bit more information someone will be able to give you some advice.

Breastfeeding can be hard, especially when you don't know what is upsetting your little one, but well done for getting this far and remember what a great job you are doing.

this is a new thing. it has been going on for maybe a week or so. she cries at random times during a feed. more during the day than at night... i use the same position i think cradle hold in the day and side lying at night. she hates the football hold and will not allow it. she's generally a very good girl between feeds. i'm getting very fed up.

Awww, sorry you are having such a difficult time, it must be very frustrating.

From what you've said, the only thing that really springs to mind is an over-active let-down, which is when your milk comes out too fast for your baby. However, if that was the case you would probably notice milk spraying when the baby comes off to cry! Maybe someone else will have some ideas. Have you spoken to your health visitor or someone about it?

Perhaps if she is less fussy at night you could try lying down to feed during the day? I had to feed Aaron lying down for several weeks, as he just wouldn't feed any other way. Thankfully I can now sit up to feed him during the day!

thanks ladies, that was a great website by the way. i'm going to try to get my let-down under control. it is not spraying but when the baby cries she spits out a lot of milk, so maybe that is the problem. either that or she's just having another growth spurt. i dunno.

Vejables, she could very well be having a growth spurt. My lil bub is not happy about breast feeding this week either. A lot of the times however she has gas and will pull off. Sometimes she just wants to comfort suck on me and is frustrated that the milk is coming out as she's not actually hungry. It could be so many things but I highly doubt she doesn't like breast feeding. Hang in there hun and see if it passes. I know it is frustrating and easier said than done but try hang in there!

You could try taking things like nicotine, alcohol and caffein off your diet, it may upset her stomach. The way to get a baby to breastfeed when they don't want to is get naked and lay skin to skin with you baby, and don't shower for a couple of days, also don't use smelly soap or anything that changes your 'natural aura'. The baby will recognize your aura and there is a smell that comes out of your milk ducts that is like the amniotic fluid, so your baby will be drawn to it naturally.
