Random BF question

Ok so ive not started yet, but im gonna try when shes born, But i was just wondering,
My mum said she was taught to do it 30 seconds on one side then 30 on the other.. i explained to her that nowadays your told to do one side one feed, next feed other side, as the milk is proven tog et thicker the longer they feed on one side and be more tasty,
So, my question is, if you do one side one feed.. do you look lopsided all the time??
Also, do you think i should invest in a steriliser and bottles just incase.. i plan on BF for a few months but i dont think i have it in me to do it for a year, but ill see how it goes, also will probably express sometimes, but im not sure how it all works. x

In the early days I did look a bit lopsided sometimes! Not so anyone else would notice though I think (hope!)

I bought all the bottles and sterilising stuff because asda were doing a sale and I got the bottles free and I knew I'd be expressing. Totally up to you but it's definitely something you can pick up easily in the shops at the time if you want

Good luck!

So are you only lopsided at frist then it balances out once your in a routine and your body knows which side to ''fill up'' ??

And what if you decide to stop... will the side you finish on always be smaller than the other one? or does it go away?

After a while you don't fill up and empty like you do in the beginning, your supply levels out so you produce milk as baby is feeding. My boobs now feel exactly like they did pre-preg.

Again, once you stop, you'll stop producing milk which is what causes the size change anyway so you should be back to even boobs!

In my experience if I was lopsided at all, it wasn't enough to notice really. I definitely could feel one boob being fuller than the other, but as he was feeding every what, hour and a half or two as an infant, it's not like I had to wait very long to even it out again, lol!

Did you say your mom said 30 SECONDS on each side? Or did you mean minutes? Just picturing flopping baby back and forth every 30 seconds, LOL... anyway, I found alternating to be the most practical method and less disruptive to baby's feeding.

Amelie has only ever taken one side at a feeding, then she'll take the other side on the next feeding. You don't really look lopsided but I can tell which one is full of milk because it's hard and sometimes if she hasn't fed for ages like when shes been at nursery, the fullest breast busts over my bra

+ yes, get a cheapy tommee tippee microwave steriliser with the bottles included. You'll need a steriliser anyway, even if you don't bottle feed.

I still get engorged so I def produce milk when she isn't feeding.

My MIL told me to feed 2 mins from one side then 2 mins from the other and LO should be full after that. Needless to say, I didn't try it!

When I first started bf I used to offer both sides but when my nipples were really sore the HV suggested only feeding from one side at each feed to give them a bit of a break. It worked and now Harvey only takes one side, I alternate them between feeds.

I didn't buy bottles, etc beforehand as I thought if I had them in the house I'd be more likely to use them for formula and give up bf if I was having a tough time of it. You won't be expressing in the early days anyway so you could wait till the January sales. There's no harm in having them ready to go and knowing how to work them before LO arrives though - whichever you prefer.

Yeah it was something like 30 seconds they used to tell people to do, then swap over and then back again, so the baby had no problems latching on and both the mother and the baby were good at bf.. but they dont advise that now, (she was also in south africa, dunno if it makes a diff?)

K i dont have money right now to get a steriliser but i think i will get one when i have money, but then jan sales.. good idea.. im just worried i wont be able to bf and then wont have anything!
