Anyone used this? Would people recommend buying it before bubs comes so I have it just in case I need it? xx

Do you have a reason you think you will need it? (E.g. Are your nipples very flat or inverted?)

Not really. Without going entirely tmi...most of the time they're very large and kind of a bit pointy/triangle shaped but the actual nipple sits flat against the areola. Then when I'm cold or touch them the middle bit, like the actual nipple, comes out more

I'm just so paranoid about wanting to get BFing right after having it told to me repeatedly how good it is for bubs etc that I'm considering buying everything I think. I don't really know how to explain it, I just really want to succeed xx

Honey, you WILL succeed!!! You have the right attitude and that is the first half of the battle.

Personally, I wouldn't get it unless you found you needed it. It sounds like your nipples are already a good shape and react properly, so you likely won't need something to help shape them better.

Worst to worst, you will have to send OH out at some point to get one for you if you think it will help. However, I doubt you will need it, hon.

We all do! I was terrified BFing wouldn't go well for me. Especially because of the section. I understand your fears, hon. They are normal and okay. Just keep asking for support and getting your questions answered and all will be well.

I bought one just in case. I don't have inverted nipples but one has always been more 'reluctant' than the other and OH doesn't drive so i knew he wouldn't be able to get to mothercare at short notice if it turned out i needed one.

As it turns out it was invaluable the first couple of days as both my nipples were pretty flat after the birth, but after a couple of days they started responding to Toby's cries so haven't needed to use it since. It wasn't very pricey though so i think it was worth it to get off to a good start

if you get one from somewhere like mothercare, keep the receipt, and don't open the pack unless you end up needing it, you could probably return it if you end up not needing it. I even managed to return a sealed, unopened pack of perineal massage cream as I found out I would need a section before I started using it!

We had problems latching on at first and the midwife suggested hubby go out and get me nipple shields - they never mentioned the latch assist. I wouldn't use any of these things unless you really need them though - it has taken us 8 weeks to phase out the nipple shields!
