Meh

Not even a rant really, but she used to sleep through most nights but since hitting 3 months has woken in the night. I started doing a dream feed and she'd then usually go 7 hours from the dream feed before waking. Except yesterday, when she still woke at 2.30 anyway as if I hadn't done it!

I know it could be much worse, it's just - I want her to grow and change but every time she gets into a routine she starts teething or learning a new skill or has a growth spurt - who are these people whose babies follow a routine from birth?! Bah.

I am lucky really and shouldn't even bother writing this.

Thanks ladies. I know I should be glad she doesn't wake hourly (and I am, really) but I just feel all over the place now! During the day lately she has been napping 2 hours after she wakes up, for about 40 minutes... but today after her second nap she was cranky as hell and after a while she went back down - for 2 hours! Which was amazing but she only did it as I lay with her for half of that and she could suck at will.

She is also being really funny with her feeds - it's all I can do to get a 5 minute feed into her at the moment. After a minute or two of feeding she seems to want more but comes off, cries, goes back on for a suck, comes off immediately, cries, buries her head in my boob, sucks, comes off, cries... AAAAHH!! it can be like this all day! I have no pattern to feeds anymore as she's so all over the place.

She's also desperate to suck her thumb to help her to sleep (tries really hard when she's tired) but she can't quite do it properly and she doesn't like dummies.

Meh!

Her gums might be sore. Theakston feeds fussily like that when his teeth hurt, I know it's that because if I shove bonjela on his gums he feeds normally. Last night they were so sore he was latching on slightly to one side and chewing my nipple with his back teeth gums for about 2hours. I was in bloody agony and had no idea what was going on! I whapped a load of bonjela on (even though they recommend not to before bf'ing as it can numb their tongue) and he went straight on for 8minutes and went to sleep for 7hours!

Don't think you can use bonjela before 4months but it might be worth checking her gums out or giving them a rub and see if it helps. If it does help, a bit of calpol might make a difference. Or try teething powders for a few days and see if there's any improvement.

I've also found that W feeds funnily like that if he's tired, not hungry but wants to suck. He FINALLY found his thumbs a couple days ago and is now going loads longer between feeds now, in fact I feel fairly strange as I don't feel I feed him enough now! Easily goes 3-4 hours which was very rare before!

Also feels like we have more 'complete' feeds IYKWIM? Maybe hold out feeding her until she's hungry rather than just fancying something to eat? Hard I know!

Although I've changed my mind about us having the same baby, if W goes 5 hours at night without feeding thats really long!
