Should i wake him up??

Sid has been going 4 to 4 and a half hours between feeds today and last night.. is this ok? should i be waking him up earlier?? It was every 2 hours until the beginning of the week and then it went to every 3 hours but 4 seems to long?!

Also we've been giving him gaviscon for a little over a week for his reflux and he went 12 hours without pooing which is unheard of, so i stopped giving it to him the last 2 feeds and he's pooed now so i wonder if hes belly is full from not pooing and thats why he's going so long between feeds???

Bf babies can go weeks without pooing but my LO has trouble going sometimes but still goes twice a day! It's normal for them to feed less often as they get older as they get more efficient at feeding and it could be that the Gaviscon is helping to fill him as they have such tiny tums. I give Infacol before every feed and I find if he wakes sometimes for a little top up, he doesn't want more than a quick comfort suck after the Infacol so I figure it just tops up his tummy that tiny bit.

Do you take him to get weighed at clinic every week? As long as he isn't losing weight I wouldn't worry

Let us know how the weigh in goes.....

During the first six weeks, baby should poo 3+ times a day; this shows that baby is getting enough hind milk. After that they can go a long time between poos - even ten days is fine, so long as when it comes it's soft and doesn't cause pain or blood streaking.

Is baby getting anything between feeds? A dummy, a drink, a finger in the mouth? If you're worried about weight, it's important to ensure that all baby's sucking is at the breast. But many babies thrive on 4 hourly feeds; and it sounds like you're open to feeding as frequently as baby wants!

1oz a day is healthy weight gain. I wake my LO if she's been asleep 3 hours during the day to feed her (I have always done this - she had long naps from birth). During the night I let her sleep.

He now weighs 7lb 8 and a half ozs so he has put on 6 and a half ozs in a week which is ok isn't it??

He has now poo'd loads since i cut out 2 lots of gaviscon so i think i'll make sure he has at least one feed a day without it??!!

He does have a dummy but only after he's had a feed and refuses the breast but will try him without it for a while.

Also i've noticed that his fontanelle is sunken which is a sign of dehydration isnt it?? so maybe i should wake him after 3 hours?? He has plenty of wet nappies so i'm surprised he might be dehydrated tbh!

I might be wrong, but I think if a baby is dehydrated enough for his fontanelle to be sunken as a result then it is serious? Could there be another reason why it is sunken? Maybe you could ask your HV or doctor to check that out?

6 and a half oz in a week is fine. My HV told me 4-7 oz a week is 'normal'.
