| tips for lying down Hey girls
just wondered whether anyone has any good tips for making sure that you get a good latch in the lying down position...We are struggling at night and I think we would benefit from lying down but I don't want to get sore doing it!

| I often have to lie down to feed on the left side as the milk flow is too fast and overwhelms little one. If I have difficulty getting him to latch I sort of hover my boob vertically over his mouth (so I am above him) he seems to latch better that way and then I lower myself to the side and turn him toward my body.....does that make sense? I am new to this myself but it seems to work for us! | | | | Status: Offline

| do you have a large chest? It's totally possible to feed from either side without moving the baby to the middle. I'm about an F cup atm and I actually find it easier to lie on my left and feed with my right breast than to feed with my left. | | | | Status: Offline

| When my LO was still small, I used a sleep positioner to help up with the lying down nursing. It kept him on his side better. I had 2 and one of them was on 1/2 in foam. I liked that one for nursing best, as it raised him to a better height for nursing. At first I also make sure I was laying on the side he was nursing from (left bb, left side and vice versa). I also used a pillow at my back to help prop me in a more comfortable position. Now that he is bigger, older, and more practiced, he doesn't use a positioner and can nurse from both bbs no matter which side I am on. He also rolls to his side on his own when he is hungry.
As for worrying OH will roll on him -- YES I DO!!!! OH actually has one of the no-nos for bed-sharing (he takes a prescription med that makes him drowsy at night as a side effect). For that reason, I never put LO in the middle. I have an arm's reach co-sleeper cot that LO spends about half the night in. It is up against my side of the bed. When I pull him into bed with me, LO goes between me and the co-sleeper, with me in the middle of the bed. That way OH would have to roll over me to get to LO. Once LO starts rolling around more on his own, he will likely have to spend all night in the co-sleeper so he doesn't roll off the bed. (He would have to scoot down about 2.5 feet then over about 2 feet to roll off the bed) | | | | Status: Online

| One thing which works for us is to place his receiving blanket under him and pull the furthest side towards you, which rolls him on his side closer to you, and he seems to eat/latch really well like that. And it keeps him positioned nicely.
I also sometimes have to sandwich my breast a little and guide his mouth to it. I did this more when he was younger though. | | | | Status: Offline
