My LO and I bed share/co sleep and he does the same. It is his rooting around that actually wakes me up. It is the only time he will turn from laying on his back to his side (when he wakes hungry). I then feel all sorts of rooting behavior on my chest and it wakes me up. I lift my bra and let him find it. Works much better that way as it is pitch dark. Plus, neither of us wakes fully doing it that way, so both get better sleep.

With Abby I've always taken the boob to her rather than the other way round. Her middle of the night feeds were all done in bed and I'd doze and just let her get on with it. Occasionally we'd both fall asleep and I'd wake to her rooting about and latching on, it was really cute. I still do it now from time to time if she is antsy in the afternoon and hasn't napped well.

There are conflicting recommendations on it. Some say it is strictly off limits, some say it is a good thing, especially for breast feeding babies and moms.

I would do some research into it if you are interested. There are ways to do it safely and loads of ways that are unsafe. There are special co-sleeping cots that are safe (I have one of those). And there are certain rules to follow if you bed share (bring them to bed with you).
--Never put him on his tummy in an adult bed.
--Don't fall asleep with him on you in the adult bed.
--Make sure sheets are tight, mattress is firm, and bedclothes and pillows aren't near him and won't get near him during the night.
--Never bed share if you or hubby are overtired, have had anything to drink, or had any medicines or drugs that make you sleepy.
--Never co-sleep/bed share on a couch or sofa
--Make sure your bed is in the middle of the room (not against a wall where they can get trapped between the bed an the wall or other object)

There are more things to consider than just this. Do a bit of research if you are interested. It has been a life saver for me, though, and I wouldn't trade it for the world!

I think there is a sticky thread somewhere about safe co-sleeping??
