I still do it if W is messing about - he can look around more and put himself on and off as he likes this way, so I just lie back on the sofa and let him do as he likes! Not a very quick way of feeding but who cares?!

I spoke to an NCT supporter on the phone and she suggested biological nurturing to get us back on track. Lots of skin on skin and encourage the baby to find the nipple and do it all himself.

Almost became our party trick! Amazing to watch, nature is so clever :-)
candyfloss, I think we actually do have the same baby...

Ilana rooted for my boob at birth (I hadn't noticed, I was too high as a kite on adrenaline). She used to bob her head up and down and kind of peck at me like a bird - she still does sometimes if she's really hungry. Sometimes she'd attach herself to my or husband's necks whilst being burped! I was amazed at the strength she had in her neck to do it.

We had some problems a few weeks in and an NCT counsellor suggested biological nurturing and it helped so much to allow her to find the boob herself. I used to help her out by nudging her bum over or something but she was fabulous at it and it really helped. i don't know how they do it but it is amazing.

Oh yes, a month or so ago she'd been in her sling asleep round town. As she started to stir she manouvred herself inside the sling so her mouth was over my nipple and started sucking away at my t-shirt! So incredible!

I wasn't "getting him to latch" properly and he was tearing up my nipples, so day 2 in hospital I laid him on my breast and just let him find it himself. Felt a lot better...

Hi there
I puy my LO on my chest when she was 20 mins old and she had no problems latching on at all, over 2 1/2 years later I can't get her off!! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and hope the feeding goes well for you.

The midwives in hospital put Harvey on my chest just after he was born and he rooted around on his own till he found the nipple.

Bana, Harvey hated naked time when he was a month old but now it's his favourite thing!

Amelie would root about as soon as she was laid near my boob and would bob her head about until she found it, aw. The first few days of life I had to help her latch on by literally lifting and placing her mouth around my nipple because she was really sleepy after the birth.

Harry is exactly the same- it always makes me smile- he does it with such a look of determination on his little face when he's trying to find it & how he gets a big sulky lip when I pull him away from my neck, knee, tummy... any bit of skin tbh, lol. and then how relieved n excited he is when he finally 'pecks' n find the damn thing bless them.

Isnt nature wonderful?

I've never thought of trying that! May have a go with this little bubs when it comes just to watch it. Fascinating thought, but as some has said, it's very natural and happens in nature anyway, so makes sense it would happen with babies!

The co-sleeping and eating thing sounds every so appealing as it would be so much easier than getting up, but with my son, I only co-slept a couple of times and one time I woke up and my big massive milk boob somehow got laid out right over the top of his entire head. I was totally freaked that I'd smothered him but fortunately his head was turned sort of inward towards my armpit so he was grand. But it scared me enough to never co-sleep again!
