Expressed too early?

Hey all,

I expressed yesterday after little man had fed, I emptied the boob he had drank from then started on the other one and managed to get a little less than 3oz in total, probably could of got more but my nipple started to hurt (I have Medela Mini electric...wow its powerful, had to turn the suction down lol).

Anyway that was about 1pm, 4pm came and Oscar wanted another feed, but my let down didn't kick in like it normally does and poor little man was sucking and sucking and it seems to me that he wasn't getting anything? Tried from the other side aswell and he was really sucking again...he was constantly feeding on and off from 4pm till 7pm when he must have finally got enough and slept until 11pm bless him! 11pm feed was fine, let down kicked in straight away and he was back to being drowned by my milk lol!

Do you think i'm expressing too early? ( 2 weeks post birth) Guessing my milk hasn't properly been established yet....planned to go out next saturday though & really wanted to give him expressed milk rather than formula?

x

Expressing now should actually help boost your supply, the more you feed and/or express the more you will produce.

The more likely cause of the epic feeding session was cluster feeding. Most babies will feed constantly for several hours in the evenings to help fill them up for a longer stretch at night.
