Anyone have a baby who gained really fast, then really slow?

LO was on the 50th centile from birth to 8 weeks. Then he leapt to 98th Centile and followed that until 22 weeks. His weight gain was over 10oz a week, but now is less than 0.5oz a week.

His weight gain started slowing down a couple of weeks before weaning, and he still has mainly breast milk.

He is incredibly active, sitting all day, rolling and crawlling.

Sorry this may be irrelevant. Freya was born on the 3rd centile, went up to 25th very fast and about 4 months dropped to the 9th, she has been on this ever since. She has not gained a lot of weight in the last few months. She is also very active.

Thank you. Perhaps the lower Centile in their natural weight? I thought the higher one was his norm, but maybe the rapid gain was the odd bit.

HV isn't worried, but I'm a terrible worrier.

Yeah, when she went up to the 25th she was drinking so much milk, everyone was saying she was going to be massive if she carried on at that rate. No-one has seemed concerned really, only because ours happened earlier than yours we got told to start weaning, so I stopped going to get her weighed! I can go again now, lol. Freya gains about 10oz a month now, if that.

Don't worry, he can't keep gaining at the rate of 10oz a week forever, he would be huge!

Jack was 97th for height and weight at birth and is now 97th for height and 78th for weight. He just finished a big growth spurt though (10lb 8oz at birth; 15lb 7oz at three months). When I got him weighed before the growth spurt, he was 85th for height and 75th? for weight... he just slowed down a tiny bit before having a big grow. So long as the curve is generally upward, I wouldn't worry about it.

BF babies tend to gain weight in steps, so they will often jump around the centiles. As MrsR says they only tend to worry when the go below their birth one.
