lots of silly questions!!

Zack was born on the 20th Oct , so is three weeks today!! OMG!! have exclusively bf but he has been sooooooo windy since birth!

I think I must of started the bad habbit of sleeping with him in my arms since hospital now he can be sound asleep in my arms and as soon as I put him in his crib or even on bed next to me he screams Im just really worried about cot death. I sleep literally with him cradled in my arm and just with a sheet covering him no duvet...so lol Im freezing!!

also he feeds great but Im sure one boob is better than the other!! should I keep using the rubbish boob to get the supply up? I seem to of got in a mess which boob to use as I am concentrating on trying to let him get hindmilk but I can never tell when boob is empty?? I feel useless !!

also his poo is not yellow like everyone says with bf babies its kinda (sorry for this ) like chip shop curry sauce?? is that normal? he is still jaundice so wondered if it was to do with that?

sorry for all questions and thanks for any help xxxxxxxxxxxxx

The chip shop sauce analogy, lol, you mean kind of orange colour? My MW told me that meant good quality milk, so thats good, texture wise yeah thats applicable too!!
To tell if your boob is empty, when he comes off squeeze it, if it oozes more milk its not empty. Dont feel useless cause you clearly are not!!!! I also have what I call an underperformer (rubbish boob, lol) I try to use it as much as the other one, even though she prefers the other one, my hv said if you let them just feed from one it could affect supply.
For me I wouldnt worry too much about sleeping with the baby, but I might get a blanket or two, lol. Your baby is small and just wants to be near you, I know there is lots of differing opinions re cosleeping, but if it works for you.....
Re the wind, ohhhh have we had wind!!!! At 3 weeks I would try infacol if it works then great, if not then I would see the docs, they have other stuff they can give you on prescription like colief ( you can buy this but its quite expensive)
Oh and I would see your HV about the jaundice, I thought that normally went earlier than 3 weeks.

i have breastfed 2 kids. with my 1st i remember feeling useless like u! especially when i had my mil worrying that dylan wasnt mayb eatin enuf (even tho he put on 1/2lb 2 1lb every wk! lol) when it is your 1st it is easy 2 worry all the time. it sounds like u r doing a gd job. breastfeeding is hard. as for wind i agree with soon2b6 infacol or coleif may do the trick. i would also feed with both breasts as even if he downt need 2 at the moment he eventually will. maybe try a different position like rugby balling hold. it may be more comfortable 4 him. he is still young so i woldnt worry about sleep routines yet. i think there's no point at 3wks as baby cant even distinguish between night and day yet.

Bumpty, it sounds to me like you're doing a great job!
The chip-shop-curry-sauce poo idea made me laugh! It's a perfect description for the yellowy orange goo!

Your LO may not want to sleep on his own for lots of reasons, but maybe it's because the cot has a flat surface. Does he go to sleep in a bouncy chair? If he likes being upright, you could try tilting the mattress a bit by putting towels underneath it to create a gentle slope.
Otherwise he may not want to lie down because of colic and trapped wind. I was reluctant to try infacol because it has an orange flavour and I'm allergic to oranges! Weird I know. Anyway, we tried dentinox, which is minty, and that seemed to help. Only used it for a couple of days and not really needed to use it since - maybe LO handles wind better now, who knows.
The other thing which has helped the wind was a tummy tub. LO loves bobbing around in it and I'm sure it's helped settle his tummy.

My LO prefers one of my boobs to the other but I use both. I alternate, one boob per feed. I also express most days and try to express from the less favoured boob more often, iykwim.

Hope some of this helps and you find something that works for you both. It does sound like you're doing just fine. x x x

I did the same thing - started sleeping with LO in my arms at the hospital. Slept that way until he was 11 weeks old, then HAD to get him to sleep on a bed. I bought and Arms Reach co-sleeper and use that. But we also bed-share. Just make sure that your bed is safe for bed-sharing. There is research that for mother's that BF on demand, bed sharing (when done RIGHT) can reduce the risk of cot death.

As for getting to the point of getting LO out of your arms, this is what I did: I started by laying him down in other places for naps during the day. He seemed to fall asleep really easily during tummy time, so I let him do that. When he was tired, I could put him on his tummy on the floor mat and he would sleep. I only let him sleep on his tummy when he is on his own and I can watch him. Never put them down on their tummy in your adult bed. Anyway, after a couple of weeks of getting more used to short naps on his own, he gradually worked his way to being comfortable sleeping in his co-sleeper and next to me in bed. Next to me in bed is still his favorite, but we are working on spending longer stretches in the co-sleeper. I just let him be the guide, gently encourage him toward sleeping on his own more, but don't push it (i.e. I don't do the cry it out thing and force him to fall asleep on his own, but I do let him fuss a bit on his own).
