Relactation and pumps

Hello there, I copy a thread I've made to Baby club subforum in here maybe I would get more responses.. Hope it doesn't matter if i post same question

so the story:

I gave birth on 28/7/2009. From the start I tried very hard with BF, but I was supplementing with formula too because LO was still very hungry even after hours of BF him. Anyway, I was BF, pumping and supplementing for 2.5 months now. I recently found fenugreek, tried it but didn't help.Recently I got my period back. From that day forward I only express 1 oz per day. I still try to BF but I always supplement.I tried everything, really. I've read a lot of books, I am on a healthy diet, I BF then pumping, etc. I have also done power pumping for 4 days in a row being in the couch 24 hours a day and just BF and pumping. I am really desperate because I want so badly to BF him but I didn't do a good start from the clinic I gave birth (they didn't help at all with BF, they were just giving formula)

After trying everything, I want every day to give up.. but something holds me back..

I decided to change my cheap breast pump and try again to increase my milk because now everyday is less and less.. In my country they don't rent hospital grade pumps so I have to buy from ebay..

I found Medella swing which has an affordable price.. Will it help me increase my milk supply from that point forward? The Medella Pump in style is good too because is double pump but is more expensive. What would be the best choice to increase milk supply?

So to cut a long story short... WILL MEDELA SWING help me increase my supply which has almost dried up or the cheap electric pump i have will do the same job if I do power pumping for a week?

thanks in advance for your responses and sorry for the long post

Hey, sorry I know nothing about the Medela Swing, but I am about to start trying to re-lactate and I have just bought a Medela Mini Electric Double. I wanted a double, electric pump and it was the most affordable I could find. I also got it off ebay, but it is pretty much new.

I have only tried with manual hand pumps in the past and they got me nowhere. As far as I am aware, obviously the better the pump the more effective, but really, they should all do the job IMO.

I am looking forward to using my double one, can't say I am looking forward to getting up 3 hourly in the night to pump though....

My advice would be to get the best pump you can afford, as you will only spend god knows how long wondering if it is the pump that is the problem, if you have a really good one, you know it isn't that.

Good luck with it all

The double pump is definitely a better buy but I found medela swing is an improved version of mini electric. From what I've read so far I know that to relactate the best pump is to rent a hospital grade pump but unfortunately in my country I don't have that option.

Good luck kirsten, hope it will work for you.
