Stimulation lactation....

Hi girls,

Not sure if anyone can shed any light but i have been advised by my midwife to start using a breast pump a few times a day to help stimulate lactatipn as i am on meds for an inherited kidney condition that may slow milk production down.

I have started doing this and end up getting a small amount of milk/colostrum. I am getting concerned that i will get all the colostrum out and there will be none for baby, do u think this will happen? There isnt really enough to save!

Also hoping it might kick start things!! 38+2 now!! want to meet my little man

Thanks

Ellie x

Hi Hun

I attended a breastfeeding class whilst pregnant and the health visitor teaching it advised us to have a go at hand expressing so that we felt confident doing it when baby was born. She said then that it wouldn't in any way affect the levels of colostrum produced - you won't run out. Hopefully other posters on this thread will confirm that for you. Good luck with everything sweetie.

xx

your milk won't properly come in until the placenta has come away after the baby so you'll be ok.

it won't harm ou but don't do it too much that you give yourself sore nipples before you've even started.
