what breast pump?

Hi all,

I'm pretty much ready for my little man now...but just had a thought today that I haven't got a breast pump yet! A few friends have decided to pitch together as they want to buy me something I need rather than something I wont use

Soooo which is best, i'm hopin to start expressing after the first 6 weeks (if its all successful and goes to plan that is) and I have very keen grand parents to be who can't wait to babysit and just help out and feed my little man while I grab a kip etc (gotta love my family!!).

So i'm looking to buy quite a good one, preferably an electric one? Any recommendation welcome!! Also rough prices if you know how much they are?

Thanks in advance!

Megan

i have a melela swing.. its very popular with the ladies on there, its around £85 i think. if you are going to be exclusively pumping you might want to go for a double pump tho, think its a medela symphony, but way more pricey to buy.. although you could always hire...

it depends how much you want to use it. I pump for one feed a day (or less, thesedays) and I had a medela mini electric. That one is fine for occasional pumping, I think. The medela swing is a bit better but I wouldnt use it enough to justify the expense. .. but medela ones are very good (but probably not quite up to exclusive pumping)

I would only get an electric pump (manual ones are hard work), I have got the Medela mini electric & got on with it fine.

Thanks ladies...Medela it seems to be then?

I think I will just express occasionally, want to feed little man myself mainly, if I can!
Think I will go for the mini one.

I have a Medela Swing and love it, best thing I bought this time round. My friend lent me her Avent electric pump, worked wonders for her but didn't do anything for me so everyone is different but Medela seems most popular.

I have the Medala mini electric and it's great. I pump once a day and find it very fast.

I have the Medela swing, can't fault it.

I have heard the cheaper pumps are quite loud ? Not sure how true that is but the swing is the total opposite so I can quite happily express in the same room as him and not wake him up.

It was £90 from mothercare but if you shop around you can get it cheaper and it is worth every penny. It sounds a lot but if you think you'd spend £90 fairly quickly on formula whereas this will last for ages and can then be sold on or saved for another baby, I like to think of it as an investment
