Feeding non stop/cluster feeding? ***MORE HELP REQUIRED PLEASE!!!***

Ok so I am completely new to this so this may be a really stupid question but is it normal for my lo to feed continuously for a few hours at a time?

For the last two nights he has wanted to be on the breast from around 11pm till 3 or 4 am almost continuously pausing only to have his nappy changed or get winded, I thought he would feed often but not with only 5 or 10 minutes between feeds!!

It is normal for young babies to cluster feed, they do it to take on as much food as possible to help them sleep longer. Isobel did her cluster feeding from 5pm to 930/10pm and only give me 5-10mins without being stuck on me, while she cat napped then she wanted more. Just remember you need to eat and drink at this time as well. It's tiring the cluster feeding but it does ease xx

Adrian's cluster feeds are what started me on co-sleeping. Because he'd wake up hungry, eat, fall asleep, I'd put him to bed, and he'd be awake again before I could turn around and get back into bed. Then i almost tripped while putting him in his cradle, so I decided cradle is for naps only.

So yeah, it's pretty normal.

It's totally normal hon. Aisling did it in the early evening through to about 12am when we all went to bed. If he's only 5 days old, hopefully he'll figure out night and day so that the cluster feeding at least happens a little earlier for you. Good luck hon, you're doing brilliantly

I'm a bad mummy and have started giving Amber a bottle of EBM at 11.30pmish after a 30min breast feed. Meaning she sleeps till 5am, has another 30min breast feed then I wake her at 7am for another 30min breast feed (as of next week I| will then have to get DS1 and DS2 to school and nursery so I need her fed at 7am to get the boys ready at 8am). I also give her a dummy.

I express with a small hand pump during the day while I feed her. Takes practice but seems to work for us.

Yeah totally normal honey. He's giving your boobs the messages they need to make sure your supply matches his demand. Keep at it honey and you'll get established in no time. Follow his lead and also remember that BFing is so much more than just food for him. He needs to know that you are near as he's spent all his life close to you and your body sounds so when you BF him he will feel and smell you and hear your heart beating
