Why the fek wont they prescribe me domperidone!!!!!!

I am absolutley FURIOUS now.

Some Mum's with their babies in the neonatal unit have been able to get prescibed domperidone to help with their milk supply.

My doctors surgery are refusing point blank to prescribe me this, even after I have handed in a recommendation letter from the hospital like they asked for.
They keep saying its because it's not going to be used for the reason it was licensed for.

One of the Mum's easily got prescribed it to help her as her doctor was a man with 4 kids and knew exactly what the purpose was in breastfeeding terms.

The neonatal unit said its fine to take, and one of the Mum's has given me a few days supply from her own. And its working. I'm sure it is!

I am absolutley furious and I am going to make a complaint. Even the Health Visitor told me that another HV has been using it. SO WHY THE HELL CANT I!

What on earth can i do!?!?!?!

Have you seen only one doctor at your surgery? Perhaps make an appointment with a different doctor?

I would really try and get an appointment with a more understanding doctor hun...

If not, you *can* buy domperidone over the counter at pharmacies. Would probably be a little expensive, and they wouldn't sell it for increasing your milk - you would have to lie and say it was for sickness.

You can buy Motilium over the counter which is Domperidone but depending how much you need to take it works out expensive, maybe you could try it, see if it does work and then get a second opinion, I think its around £4.20 in Boots.

The hospital prescribed me some when my baby was in SCBU. I had been discharged a week earlier so was not a patient. They did it as it was for the benefit of my baby. Can you ask the hospital to give you some?

Well the SCBU wont do it for me as I have been discharged. thats their excuse.

i would buy it over the counter but I dont see why i should really! If everyone else can get it without a problem why shouldnt i?

Its official - since last night I KNOW domperidone has made a HUGE difference - at times I was only getting 20mls and since last night i have been getting between 40 and 60mls per time I express!

Why is there one rule for one doc and another for another!
