Those little sucks...?

You know after baby has had about 10 minuites of good hard sucking that moves the breast we then get those little sucks where you think hes fallen asleep on you but really he hasnt because as soon as you move a millimeter he has the good strong sucks again like he was just teasing me

Im guessing this is normal as he is still propperly latched on and hadnt lost any of his latch at all i just dunno!

should i let him have this little rest period or should i release him from his latch and see if he kicks up a fuss for more boob? i just dont wanna be used as a dummy or a comforter!

The midwife told me they have periods of rest but I tend to tickle his feet and his ear or blow on his face to try and rouse him. If he's still clamped on but doesn't do any sucking despite me tickling him then I just stick my finger in and prise him off and see what he does. Normally he'll either just stay asleep or he'll snuggle into my chest and sleep so I think it's just comfort sucking. Don't worry about the latch or anything, I find he sorts himself out if he wants more. If you don't want him to use you for comfort then as soon as you think he's fallen asleep, just put your finger in his mouth to prise him off and see what happens. If he wakes up and wants more, then fine, if he's just doing it to soothe then he should stay asleep.

Its totally normal. Kinda like when you first sit down to eat, and your starving, you tend to eat faster, then slow down as you get fuller. You are not done eating, but not starving as well. If that makes sense.

Such a lovely little action, the little nibbly sucks! I just used to let Poppy stay on there until she stopped nibbling, take her off and if she was still hungry she'd cry or root around for more.
