Breastfeeding & TTC - cutting down feeds..

Cutting down feeds to reguate cycles, ridiculous theory, or worth a shot?

Obviously not now, but in a few months, if still nothing, is it worth trying..

She's 13 months in 3 days... Gone back to feeding 5 times a day...

Good luck with that hun. I'd say it would make a difference as you wouldnt be producing as much prolactin but I personally wouldnt bother unless like you said you were still here in a few months.

This is why I've been trying to cut down Valerie's amounts of nursings throughout the day. My doctor told me, the more they nurse, the more complicated and sporadic our cycles are. Now that I've been getting my period back, I've really been trying to get her down to 2-3 times a day nursing. She's been doing really well and only nurses once in the afternoon and when she's ready to go to sleep for the night. I think you should look into it like you said if you're still trying to conceive in two or three months. It's worth the shot!

To be honest, we're pretty much back to co-sleeping and I'm trying to stop her using me as a dummy - not easy! Had many nights of screaming fits

I'd give her a bit of time see what happens. hayden was the same way at that age but naturally on his own by 15mo had cut down alot on feedings. I did have to night wean at almost 15mo because we both had really really bad thrush and i needed some time to heal and he was nursing almost all night..took a couple nights but he gave it up as he really didn't need it anymore then. But the other feedings he cut down himself, to once in the morning and once right before bed and occasionally one other during the day. At a little over 15mo I got my period back finally. i'd see how she does in a few months, she probably will start to cut back on her own as she becomes more of a toddler...too busy to sit lol

She did cut down and stop sleeping with me, then when she started cutting these teeth all she wants to do is feed I feel bad for not letting her feed all the time but she's starting to hurt me. She pinches and grabs my other nipple while she's feeding if I tell her no she'll start screaming at me....

Hopefully she will stop soon. She is a toddler now, completely, and she did cut down her feeds, she just doesn't understand that I'm not a dummy

She'll probably cut back again after those teeth come through, it's just a comfort thing since she is hurting. It will probably go back to normal once the other things do

I'd be interested to know if you have any success with that, too, Toria. I am waffling back and forth between TTCing sooner rather than later, but I am yet to even have my first period. In fact, I have had two occasions in which there was some ECM (minimal), and then nothing. I am not soley breastfeeding, but I am on lactation meds, so maybe that's affecting my cycles.
I don't want to have to make a choice between TTC and BF, though. Hoping it all just sorts itself out naturally.
