Feeding Cushions?

Sorry to sneak over from 2nd tri but i have a quick question for all you breastfeeding ladies!

I am planning to breastfeed and have been looking at what feeding/support cushions are available to buy and was wondering what everyone would recommend?

Are some better than others or are they all mostly the same? Do any of you get by without using one but just using ordinary pillows/cushions?

Thanks!

I preferred normal pillows to start with even though I had a V pillow. Even if you dont use it right away or ever for BFing, they make a great little prop/nest for tiny babies!

I had a cushion from my sister, one of the round ones that go round your middle but I can't say I found it very helpful. It was rather hard and didn't seem to be at the right height. I found normal pillows better as they could be arranged for side on feeding or the normal cradle holds and built up to whatever height I needed. I did use the BF pillow for lumber support for a while though!

I tried to get by without one, but I found that I was really hunching over to feed Simon and that my back was starting to hurt. I would stack regular pillows to try to lift him up, but it didn't stay in place very well. The U-shaped nursing pillow stayed in place better, and the one I bought (The Nursing Buddy or something like that) was fairly thick, so it really lifted Simon up to me.
I have used it as a nursing pillow and as a baby prop and it's Simon's favourite place to nap. It was a good buy for me. I have heard many women say they wouldn't bother, though. Here they are about $60 CAD, so it's a bit to spend if you aren't sure you'll use it. See if you can borrow one first and then decide, maybe?

I have a cushion called a Boppy, not sure if you can get them in the UK, it was a present from America. I've found it to be really good. Wraps around your waist and is very soft. I would still need to put a small cushion under the bit where LO's head is to get her up to the right height but then again she's a long baby and I'm long in the body so that could just be us! I'd definitely recommend it.

We have a widgey and I love it, so easy to use, but only when sat up on the settee, I find it slips if I'm sat up in bed, but when in bed I feed laying down anyway so it doesn't really matter.

I use it for feeding and now as a support to help LO sit up. It went on holiday with us too.
