Milk Supply

Hi there,

Asking for my friend again who is not a BnB member....

She has a clogged milk duct and her supply is low. She is getting a prescription to unclog the duct, but because her supply is low she is worried.

What can she do to increase her supply??

She doesn't need a prescription to unclog her duct...she can do that at home

Unless it's mastitis? The best thing she can do if it happens again so her supply doesn't drop is to nurse alot on that side even though it's sore....I took a shower and let hot water run over me and massaged alot and it helped work it out. She should jus tmake sure she is nursing lots and her supply should pick back up, she could also try fenugreek

Like MO3 said lots of BFing is the best thing. Also skin to skin contact, porridge oats, fenugreek and pumping are all other things she could do

I've had this and definitely continuing to nurse was the best thing, I was told no medication would unblock the duct, chances are baby would do it by herself. I did alot of massaging around the blocked area and hand expressing as I found the pumps didn't work. Lots of warm flannels etc. Once the duct was cleared, I worked on building up the supply again but not until then as I didn't want loads more milk making the situation worse!
