Just intrested to find out who is giving there babies water?

I have always been told B/F babies dont need water coz breast milk is a food and drink in one. Some advice ive been given that i should be giving my daughter who is nearly 7 months old water coz its hot weather because Boobie milk wont be enough and the fact she is over 6 months. Just wondered what other people have been doing?

I didn't give Sam any other drinks at all until he was on a couple of meals a day at about 6 months, and even then I just offered him a bit of water in a sippy cup which he just played with for the first few weeks so he didn't get much at all x

There is no harm in giving babies cool boiled water. Many people do so to help with constipation for FF babies. But in hot weather do you want to be taking your boob out every 10 mins to ensure your baby is hydrated!

in hot weather you need to keep your baby hydrated. if your outside or real active i would try water. not all babies will drink it. just keep in mind you really cant do anything wrong. its trial and error

also.. at night its better to have water to put them to sleep then milk for their teeth. [but i think thats when they get older.] i just know that from my neice and shes almost 3

I don't think necc in hot water she would need anything else still, if she is nursing good she is fine. She doesn't have to be nursing all the time to stay hydrated, you don't have to give any babies water every few minutes to keep them hydrated. A normal healthy baby will let you know if they need more, they aren't going to let themselves get dehydrated so I'd watch her and her wet diapers rather than the weather or anything else

For Hayden we started offering water in a sippy at about 6mo when he started solids, but only to get him use to the sippy he seriously rarely drank it I think maybe a few ounces total until he was over a year lol. And he turned 6mo in March...a year in Sept so right during the summer for us The one day he drank the most...I guess 2-3 oz in that day was when we were at the zoo outside all day, other than that it was a few sips here and there, like a few times a week. He let me know when he needed more. If she is on solids she will also get fluids from that too

I dont give a flying fig about taking my boob out in the snow if necessary!

BF babies dont NEED water. You can give them a drink of water with solids when you are weaning but before BM is sufficient. My LO was so hot and bothered today that she wouldnt drink any water.....she had a drink from me no probs.

What?! You dont give 7 month old babies water to go to sleep! Are you talking about a toddler here??

BFing and BM has no effect on their teeth.

This is bad advice for the OP - sorry but it is.

Yeah I agree with MM...I didn't even read that post before...oops

But breastmilk doesn't rot teeth like formula, juice, cow's milk...they don't get the "baby bottle rot" from nursing even to sleep
