Hiya

It can work or it can confuse the baby, i had one that refused to touch a bottle one that wasnt bothered (evening daddy bottle)

also expressing isnt always easy with my first took me an hour to get an ounce of milk, not eveyone is likethat though.

once you are well established you will feel more confident and less uncomfortable doing it in public.

the best way is to have a lightweight blanket, sheet, muslin whatever and drape it over your shoulder and baby, nobody can see anything that way.

still feeding my 20 month old, now thats embarresing, she lifts my top shouting boobie, lol, little monkey.

I've heard that it's best to wait until baby is used to latching onto the breast before mixing breast with bottle because they have to suck in a different way on a bottle. I've heard of a few people doing it and being just fine though.

You know it's not that obvious when you're feeding in public, you can just put your baby up your top plus their head hides everything and everyone thinks the baby is just sleeping

I agree, there are lots of things you can do to keep from being immodest in public.

I'd also suggest bf'ing exclusively for the first 6-8 weeks at least to establish your baby's latch and get him/her used to feeding at the breast before introducing bottles.

Just a suggestion though-

Firstly you should question why are uncomfortable bf'ing in public? If anyone has a problem with it, and few people do it is their problem not yours. Just remember you are doing what is best for your baby and something natural. I have the same fear but as long as my baby is happy, I don't care what others think. And when you do BFP you see very little, you see more from teens this day.

I would suggest, start to bf straight after birth and then see how you get on!

it is really very different for everybody, so the perfect solution can't be given, sorry

e.g. in our case, LO latched on perfectly from beginning on, starting off bf was running smoothly, but when I wanted to start to express and give a bottle (that OH also can give a bottle sometimes!), she firstly didn't take a bottle and secondly it took half an hour to pump an ounce!

well, as it took so long to pump, I decided to just feed her myself then and regarding bf in public, I can reassure you, as I am a little bit shy with it as well, it would not make my choice to bf my baby anyhow different, if I could choose again!

when it comes down to it, I just have to feed her in public!

it's just one of those things, you don't necessarily want, but you have to do it! what I mean is, it doesn't spoil the experience of bf at all, I still absolutely love it
