playing tips

hiya sorry I am complete stranger too this forum . I'm sure a few of you may remember me.

Summer have got so many toys it's ridicolous(sp)
But she doesn't seem interested in playing with any of them. I bought her some happyland stuff from elc on thursday a farm and bakery etc.. she had a princess bike with handle the week before. I am always buying but I need too cut down as it's her bday in sept and we've booked a hol for end of august and need too save. She will play with something a few mins then don't bother looking what too distruct next.

are your LO's like this? she does like her books but only for 5mins or so. she does draw only for 5 mins. It's hard though with Jack now as she wants my full attention 100%.
we sing,we go too park. She always wants too be outside if she is not outside she whinges and moans.

anyway any tips on entertaining Summer she will be 21 months tomorrow. If she is outside she is happy but we cant always be outside espec with Jack to see too.
we've not tried playdough or finger paints yet. I was hoping we wouldn't have too until she was 3 but i'm thinking off getting some this week hoping this will work just worrying about the mess or her eating it.

I do think her back teeth are causing her too whinge she has all her teeth except them.

how often do you play with them? do try and sit down now and again with Summer but I get bored after 5 mins, crap mummy I know. there is always something too do around the house
anyway babbled on there any advice would be welcome X

i read a study the other day and no matter how many toys or books a child has nothing is best for the development then just sitting down and talking with them.

Dior is hard to keep happy but what keeps her the happiest and i enjoy it to is her and Harley sit with me in the garden and i talk about any thing and every thing but it has to be things they can see and i point to what we are talking about and they love it

eg "i will point to the tree and say its where birdys go night night" and i talk for ever they love it loads

I think talking is by far the best way to help your child develop. Most of the children I have in my special needs class are desperate to talk and need to learn to communicate in order to be able to play with each other. much of my time is spent teaching social skills. The other thing I would recommend from a professional point of view is interaction with other children the same age. Jonny lacked this as there were no other kids about and he found mixing in school very difficult as first and took longer to settle in thatn other children.

ta for the replies Lynne and Dionne.

oh yeah I'm always talking too her non stop. her speech is brilliant. she is stringing words together she does all the animal sounds. she says so much although I think most of the time i'm the only one who can understand her. can have a little conversation with her.

perhaps it's the company of other kids then Summer needs. I have Jack but at the mo he's a bit boring for her. The only place I take her is soft play on tues for an hour. I do take her too park etc.. But at soft play and park she don't really intereact she does her own thing. did take her too a mother and toddlers a few times but she was pushed over flat on her face and she had only just started walking this was months ago.
perhaps I should look for more mother and toddler groups.
I'm sure in a couple of months when Jack is sitting it will be easier.
ta again

hi hunny !!! hope you are all well !!

Jamie is the sasme, i think he has too many toys he doesnt knwo what to do next !
we do colouring together which he loves and bought a sand and water table a while ago which we also play together but have had to keep it outside as i thought it would be a good idea to keep in the kitchen ! nope ! sand EVERYWHERE !!! he would use the spade to make lovely little sand piles all around the lounge !!!!! so we have that as an outdoor game now !

I think the mother and baby/toddler group sounds a good idea, she will prob enjoy it more now as she isnt so tiny and can run around with the other children aswell!
i usually take jamie to playgroup once a week, he doesnt go to nursery or anything so think its good for them to socialise with other children!

He also has a brum DVD and i try to sit with him and talk about what he sees etc (its actually driving me mad now though!!!)

Anyway hope you are all ok, have you got your professional pics back yet of summer and jack?
xx
