| It's still early days, I wouldn't be too worried about it. I just recently went to a La Leche League meeting where the topic was starting solids and the mums there were sharing their experiences with us mums-to-be. The general message was that all babies have a different schedule in developing interest towards food. Most mothers there had started experimenting with giving solids around 6 months, but some babies really only started taking them around 8 or 9 months.
So, take it slow and don't worry about it. He will eventually get interested in food and start earing. Try introducing one new food per week and even if he rejects it at first, keep trying for a few more times on other days. If he really doesn't seem interested, let him take a few days off on just milk until you try again. Start with baby cereals or veg/fruit. Yoghurt is probably not the best food to start with.
There should be no problems with the iron, either, but if you are really worried, have a word with your pediatrician.
Good luck! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Maybe you should just try being persistant. Like ani said.. just keep trying, one food at a time. Just keep trying to get him to eat. Dont let him get upset, because then he really wont want it, just some time when he is completely awake and in a good mood see if he will eat a few bites.
Or, if you have a highchair already. Make sure the tray is good and clean and just put some on it. See if he will get it on his hands and eat some. He might not eat alot at first and he will probably get really messy. But if you are using a spoon, he might just not be interested in that. He might be better off trying to self feed.
I might be weary of starting too late. Like ani said, he might wait until 8-9 months. But I would be worried that he would get to used to the bottle. Therefore making it harder to not only get him to eat solids, but also to take the bottle away (when the time comes). |

| Aaron is about the same age as your son and so far I haven't been able to get him to take solids at all. He does everything he can to avoid having that spoon go in his mouth!
I'm not too worried about it, everyone learns to eat solids sooner or later and so will he if I keep on trying. Every few days I try giving him baby cereal or pureed fruit or veg. I also give him chunks of things like carrot and banana to play with and taste. I have started giving him water in a beaker to try and get him used to it, although I don't think he actually drinks any of it at the moment. I don't have to worry about his iron levels as I am breastfeeding, but perhaps you could talk to your health visitor or doctor about that.
So don't panic, your son will get it eventually! Just keep trying but keep it relaxed and fun. If your son senses that you are anxious and upset, he will be too. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Maybe he just wants to feed himself some babies are like this; try putting little pieces of bread & butter or soft veg down and get his tastebuds flowing again. Katie has to be distracted to eat so this gives her another focus while I feed her |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I know he is only 7 months but have you tried giving him a tiny bit of something that needs a little "chewing"?
My children both went thru stages where they got bored of the pureed food and wanted something a little more solid.
Also, you said as soon as you put him in his highchair he'll refuse..why not have a carpet picnic or try letting him crawl to his food if and when he pleases....i know everyone likes to eat sitting etc but i know my babies both enjoyed the carpet picnics as they could still play and explore...and also they sit up the table now no trouble so it shouldnt make them want to do it constantly. | | | | Status: Offline

| With my daughter we left food on a table at her height (coffee table?) and let her eat/play with it. That worked | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | Kaya's 8 months and still not eating solids. I've learned to just chill about it. She will know when she needs more. |
