My children were both raised on jars-if they were truly that bad they wouldn't be on the market.

Like Tilly said I started off on Hipp Organic but everything got stained orange including her face and it was so difficult to come off!

They then went onto Heinz or whatever was on offer tbh!

I didn't make my own food with Rebecca, as I worked full time and felt that I just didn't have time (I wasn't eating a balanced diet so the making extra portion for baby wasnt an option!)

And now I have 2 young one's Rebecca eats our food, always veg etc, and Lucy is on jars-20 seconds in the micro and bobs your uncle

It hasn't done any of them any harm, I just find it more convenient for me xx

Well the milk we give them provides all the nutrients they need for their first year doesnt it? So it wouldnt matter so much about the nutrients in the jars of babyfood so much i would think. They have all they need from the milk. I make Oliver's puree's myself, because i know whats in it and i want him to get used to mummy's cooking! lol. But i do tend to use jars when i'm out as he can have them cold and most places arent allowed to warm food up for you so its just easier that way. We give Oliver the Boots organic foods, there;s a huge choice of flavours. I think its just personal choice just like the breast/bottle feeding dilemma isnt it lol. x

Is Hipp a bad idea then because I'm not fancying a stained orange face!?!

Think I'll be doing both the more I think on it & the freezing in batches sounds easy enough (been looking at recipes).

Looked at some ingredients on jars today, and they don't seem to contain salt/sugar/preservatives so I think they're a lot better than they used to be. x

Making your own food is good because you know exactly what is going in their food, but at the same time.. you are paying for the convenience of shop bought food - for example, we buy the Organix pots of fruits (usually if they're on offer 3 for £3) but we could make fruit puree lots cheaper, it's just having the time and the space to do it.

My advice is not to worry TOO much about what they say on the jars, try and involve her in your family meals as much as possible when you can and give her what you think she can have, not what 'they' say she should have. I reckon all of these baby foods are so similar that it's not worth worrying over.

OMG

Amelia went like yellowey/orange and I made no connection til now. She has Hipp all the time when I am on shifts so either for lunch if earlies and dinner if I am lates, she has home made whatever we have when I am home.

She also eats Wotsits and I put it down to this but now I am thinking otherwise.

Oh wanted to add only given jars since she was 7 months plus. I did the puree/blw weaning thing as a combo.

I got a variety of fruits and veg and ice cubed the lot and put into individual freezer bags and wrote date/what they were.

I gave Melie petit filous for afters or whatever angel delight/ice cream/whatever Chloe was having lol naughty but she is fine.

They aren't allowed to put any artificial sweetners, flavours and colours in baby food by law, so that wouldn't be a worry.

The sugar thing is in some of them esp the desserts but we managed to avoid these well with our son. We fed him fruit pots for desserts instead, didnt see the need for the apple crumbles etc.

Organix foods have no added "junk" to their foods, yes they are expensive but they are handy and you know they are getting the good stuff.

We used hipp and some cow and gate with Aidan and he enjoyed them.

They still get alot of their vitamins from their milk BF or Formula at that age anyway.
