sitting up

At what point can you say that your LO is sitting up? Kaya can sit unsupported for a few seconds before she topples over. Can I say she is sitting up or do I have to wait until she doesn't topple over any more, or is it when they can actually push themselves up into a sit?

Simon has been able to sit up unsupported since he was only 7 months. To me, this is sitting up. Before that, he would straighten his back and fall backwards. After that he slouched to one side or the other. Now, he bends over, grabs a toy and sits straight again. But I don't know what is "officially" sitting up!
