Opinions on Jamie for our son?

We just had our U/S, and yes, it was very definitely a boy!

DH has announced (after previously declaring that he was only going to reject every name I suggested) that he likes the name Jamie, and only the name Jamie, as a given first name.

The good news is, I like the name Jamie. But I am worried that it doesn't age well, and have already said as much to dh, so, no need to remind me that many of you may prefer the name James with maybe a nickname of Jamie! He doesn't like James or Jim or Jimmy, and I have just done my research to find that Jamie has, in fact, been given as a first name quite frequently in the past, especially in the mid-70s, to both boys and girls. And it's still quite popular as a given name in England and Ireland. I'm half English/half American, my husband is American, and we live in the States. But honoring my mother's heritage with a name that's more commonly used as a given name in the UK is an attractive thing.

It's just, I can't tell, is it professional and mature enough that he will feel that he could be the CEO of a company or a top politician or a Judge or a Professor or whatever he wants to be? Or does it sound too informal.

So I'd love to hear your personal thoughts about the name Jamie. What thoughts or traits does the name evoke for you? Like it or not like it? Associations or other commentary? I'm happy to hear all feedback you have!

Thanks in advance!

I like the name Jamie, it's nice. I think it's mature, yes. Wouldn't say it was informal anyway!

I really like the name Jamie. Normally I prefer to use the full name, but the exception being with this name. I much prefer the name Jamie to the name James. I think Jamie is fine for when he is older.

Jamie is a nice name and i know quite a few (boys and girls) , all ranging from their 30's to babies, so yes I guess it does age well . I must admit though that personally I would probably prefer to have James as his 'legal' name and Jamie as his 'known' name. . xx

I like the name Jamie. Have you ever watched MythBusters? Jamie and Adam are the two hosts and Jamie is definitely the more mature and professional one.

I love the name Jamie for a boy - i think it's very cute! I think it would be nice on a grown man too... i picture a very handsome guy named Jamie! I wouldn't go with James... i like the idea of "Jamie" being the official name. And by the time your son is starting a professional career there will be many "new" names in that generation.

Teachers named Ava... and scientists named Destiny... and presidents named Jayden! Your son will fit right in!!
