Ruby has been referred to Alder Hey Hospital :(

* Not sure where to post this*

When Ruby was born she had a slightly turned in foot which I had to bring to the attention of the paediatrcian myself as she didn't mention it. She said if we straighten it and manipulate it straighten it at bathtime, nappy changing etc then it will eventually become straight and not worry its perfectly normal. Then at Rubys 8 week check the GP thought she may have a clicky hip so referred us to our hospital for a scan. In the meantime my main concern was still this foot it just didnt seem to be getting any better and now she is standing up on my knee etc she is putting all her weight on the side of it. I have since mentioned it to the GP and numerous HV for oppinion all of whom have said the same as the origional Paediatrician. Anyway... Went for the hip scan on wednesday all absolutely perfect but we still needed to see the Orthopaedic Doctor on Friday as previously arranged for him to double check her pysically. Again all absolutely fine but... he asked if I minded him taking a look at Rubys foot??????? My obvious reply no, not at all and i explained all of the above to him. To which he replied the turning and manipulating that we have been doing was never going to do anything as her actual bone is bent we should never have been allowed home when she was born without a referral to a Orthopaedic Doctor and she should have had this worked on when she was weeks old when she would barely notice well, my heart sank as he explained what would now have to happen each week for anything from 4 to 8 weeks we will have to go to Alder Hey hospital in Liverpool for Ruby to have her whole leg, up to her hip in plaster and each week they will take the plaster off straighten her foot a little bit more and replaster until it is indeed straight. So, the long term results are fantastic but after going to talk to the doctor about my baby's perfect hips to leave the hospital with this news was upsetting to say the least. She is such a mover and wriggler I know the plaster is going to drive her mad and she is such a good baby and in an amazing routine with sleeping etc I dont want this to spoil it. The Doctor said if this hadn't have been treated she would have ended up walking on the outside of her foot and even dragging it behind her and at that point would be far more complex to treat and may not be sucessful so I am SO relieved that by chance the Dr has noticed it but at the same time fuming for the negligence of everyother person I have spoken to about it!!

Has anyone else been through anything similar with regard to the plaster etc? I just want to know what to expect as her reaction to it and how to work with it because at the moment I burst out crying everytime she smiles at me because I feel so gulity about how uncomfortable she is going to be and that i cant explain to her why she has it and that it is infact going to make her better so god only knows what I'm going to be like once she has it!!

Thankyou if you've read all the way to here xxxx

Aww poor ruby grace was born with a clicky hip but it sorted itself out by us putting 2 nappies on her so she didn't have to have a plaster cast thankfully. I assume you were at the countess? IMO their post natal care is not up to standard, I've heard so many stories about it. Hugs to you all x

Can't believe they all missed that. At least they have found it now and can start helping her.

That's awful that they did nothing about it - not just not noticing it, but to dismiss it as something that didn't need treatment when you mentioned it several times is terrible. I really hope her treatment goes well x
