when and how to start weaning

my lo is 16 weeks old this week. i know all the jargin on trying to wait 6 months and are quite willing to do so was just wondering how you know when your lo is ready for solids. my lo is a chunky baby he was 8lb 4oz born and when last weighed at 14 weeks he was 17lb 15oz. for the last week he has been having 8oz every 2 to 2 and half hours through the day. he is still sleeping through the nite (has been since 8 weeks) and is breastfed also on a morning and a nite. some days he may be having up to around 45oz. do you thnk this is too much. im a firm believer in feeding on demand and im quite happy to carry on doing this as long as he is still sleeping through the nite just wondered what everyones views were on this? thanks ladies.

Also was wondering when you do start weaning do you just start with something like babyrice 1 or 2 times a day or what is the best way?

I weaned my baby on solids round 20 weeks - i looked for the signs like LO watching us whilst we were eating, if she can hold herself up properly etc.

I started off with baby rice first - just gave it to her once a day, like 2 spoonfuls to start with and see how she got on with that and then gradually increased the amount and then introduced her to pureed veg and fruit.

My HA also said to wait 6 months but i think 20 weeks was right for LO to start on solids and i felt confident. I think us mummies know better sometimes, also don't forget hun that babies have growth spurts and feed more than usual sometimes x
