Childcare vouchers/child tax credits?

Are childcare vouchers and child tax credits the same thing?

How do you go about getting them?

No they are not. Childcare vouchers are that you or your partners employee offer as a salary sacrifice. So for example you 'buy' them, but that amount you dont pay tax on. Not all employers have offer them. You then use them to help towards nursery fees.

CTC are for people who are on low income.

I have edditted, only if your company (or your partner) offers them. And yes CTC are means tested.

The application for tax credits has to be requested over the phone but they ask for all your details there and then cos they don't want to send an application if you obviously don't qualify. So get your (and OH if necessary) recent P60 and call the number on the website.

The threshold for the childcare section of tax credits is different to the threshold for both child tax credits and working tax credit - just in case the thing you did wasn't specific to the childcare section...
they really want us to get these benefits don't they, I mean they've made it all so easy
