Salim has a stork mark on his right eyelid, a raspberry mark on the back of his head which is about the size of a 2pence piece but you cant see it really because he has loads of hair. He also has a mongolian mark partly on his back but mainly on his bum which is the size of a tennis ball. The health visitor said they should all fade and totally vanish by the time he is 2 years old. As long as you have mentioned them and had them checked I wouldnt worry about them

ella has one aswell on her hand, It will continue to grow until they are 1 and then after it will gradually go down and disappear.
Ellas was just a red patch of skin and now its quite big and hs that blister apperance you describe.

If its looking dry pop some e45 cream on it as they need to be kept moistrised.
If she ends up scratching it it will bleed and can come out quite fast so dont panic! ( id did when this first happned )
Put some tissue on and some pressure and it will stop.

Here is her hand :

As you can see its quite big and swollen around her finger but thats why they call it like a strawberry

My little sister had one of these as a child on her tummy, it was fairly small (maybe an inch in diameter) and it gradually lightened and eventually went away when she was a teen... now there is no sign of it at all, would never even know it was there.

Haven't been on this in AGES! - but thought i'd catch up. Our daughter Esmé has a few birthmarks- the most noticable is the one on her face-i'll post a pic soon. We see a specialist every month to keep an eye on it. She recently cut it and it ulcerated and it has started a cycle of scabbing, then because of where it is it keeps being pulled off before it is ready -by her turning, this leads to it cutting again and scabbing else-where. Our specialist said to try and avoid it this as much as possible as it may leave a scar when the mark goes. So this is quite annoying.
She is 7 months now and it has grown a little each month- the specialist reckons it will start to run out of steam in the next month or two then regress. But it could take several years for it to go.
What upsets me the most is how rude some people are- she gets really nsaty commenst from adults, I don't mind children saying things as they are just innocent- but adults should no better-it's so ignorant. Her other birthmarks we can cover- but we can't cover her face and it's the 1st thing people look at. Luckily she is such a smiley & happy baby- I wouldn't change her for the world- I just change other people!

Also to help you feel better- I had a really large one on my forehead (which my parents thanked their lucky stars I had a full head of hair to cover) and it was gone by the age of 2 and a half- I couldn't even pick out where it was on my skin now- no mark at all.

If they do pose problems with eating, seeing etc they wil treat them- otherwise they leave well alone as they always scar from excessive treatment- if they are still there when they are over 7 years old they will treat them then, as they will have allready started to regress and scarring should be minimal and by that age children generally get upset by them.

They can fade right down. Elinor was born with one over her eye....was she grew it kinda stayed wee....and the only time u see it now is if she has a temper tantrum and goes red etc....then it really shows up. She has another at the back of her head under her hair line. That is very big. And noticeable. But I am hoping it doesnt bother her when shes older

Hi
I have twin daughters, both 18 now.One of the girls had a red blister, that was a pin prick in size on her head.It grew to become a Strawberry Nevus. At the time 1993,we were very worried about it.
The good news is,it does eventually go.My daughters went just before she started school. This was a blessing because i didn't want other children teasing her.
She has been left with a tender area on her head, where it used to be.
Good news is though ''it does go away''

Hi there

My baby Summer has one on her eyelid and has been going to great ormond street since she was 11 weeks old. (shes now almost 5 months old). I got told not to worry about it by numerous doctors but because it as on her eye it could affect her vision it needed seeing to urgently and i got an appointment at Great Ormond street within 2 days!

If its not generally on there eyes, nose, mouth ears normally they wont do anything about it. But if you are really concerned about it, contact GOS directly they will tell you if its anything to worry about. Theres an email addy on this website - email them pics - they got back to me very quickly. http://www.birthmarksupportgroup.org.uk/info.php

Summer has been on medication every eight hours and will be until shes 15 months old...
just thankful we caught it early before it got the size of a golf ball. If i went by my gp and other nurses it could have been a different story..!

Exactly this was what I was about to post. They will go in their own time, however if its obstructing they can be removed...

My LO has one on her head. About the size of a £2 coin & raised about 1cm.. It also has a patch of normal coloured skin around it that is raised..
No sign of it going down yet at 5 months..
