Tripp Trapp highchair - also thoughts needed on travel highchairs

Anybody got one of these and can tell me their thoughts? Would you say they're better than a more traditional highchair? Why or why not?

I know they look nice, but they're expensive, even second-hand, so I need a better reason than that to buy! I like the fact that they fold up and also that baby can actually reach the dining table rather than having to eat off the highchair tray - would you agree that these reasons make it worth having?

Also, whatever highchair we get, it is unlikely to be very portable, so I'm considering getting a travel one as well. I've seen three sorts - (1) a kind of bit of fabric that you simply tie to a dining chair (but I don't think baby can reach the table from these); (2) a fabric one with clips on so you can attach the baby in the fabric to the table (always look a bit scary, as if baby could fall off at any time!); and (3) the chunky colourful plastic ones that you put on a dining table and hope that baby can reach the table. Again, any opinions or experience of any of these?

Ta girls
xx

I can't help with the tripp trapp I'm afraid. However, for travel I recommend looking into a booster seat. They pack away really small and are useful at home too. My sister did a lot of research before buying one, and found the mamas and papas apple to be one of the most sturdy - you can get them in argos for £35.

Hi - we were highchair shopping with grandparents at the w/e, and are still torn between tripp trapp style (although helpful poster on here pointed out Baby Dan is exactly the same and much cheaper) and Chicco Polly 70. The later allows baby to have a tray and also sit at the table. We ended up going back and letting DD sit in each - she seemed quite taken with the colours on the Polly.

We're still undecided, but got to decide asap! I think we're leaning towards the Chicco - it folds well, and does allow the table eating option.

I've a Tripp Trapp which is fantastic! Much better than traditional plastic chairs IMO.
They also 'grow with the child' and convert into a child's chair and an adult chair.

It's true that the BabyDan seems identical and much cheaper. I've just won one on Ebay for £36 to keep at my mum's!

Oh and about travel high chairs - I don't like any of the ones I've looked at, purely because Ruby hates being lower than everyone else, even a booster seat is too low, and she's 78cm!

I have a tripp trapp! a wooden foldable with tray and a plastic portable booster one!

I dont actually use the tripp trapp at the moment I am going to start when he is more confident in feeding himself

The foldable wooden one have been amazing easy to clean, doesn't stain and obviously folds up to be put away (although we never fold it)

The portable booster is great! The other styles only work if you have a suitable chair to attached them to whereas with this one you can have it on most chairs or even just on the floor! It comes with a tray so chair height isnt constantly an issue.

Any more questions feel free to ask away x

I have a Tripp Trapp, it's brilliant, wouldn't be without it.

We have a Phil and Teds clamp on portable high chair, I lik Freya to be 'at' the table wherever we go, so always take it out with me. It never feels like it's going to fall off.

We have a Tripp Trapp and love it - but they are expensive and I don't know if I'd have stretched to it had we been buying it ourselves (it was a gift from my brother, who has 2, for my nephew and niece). I like that he'll be able to sit in it for years, but that's part of what I don't like - if we have another baby we'll have to get a second one. I love that he really feels part of family meals, and for us it's really, really encouraged us with BLW because sitting up at the table is the only way to feed him - if we had a highchair with its own table I could see me sitting on the sofa and just pulling the highchair alongside, because sometimes I am lazy, but I can't really be lazy with this! I like that it looks nice with our table. It's very easy to clean, and when LO isn't in it it takes up no more room than any other chair pushed to the table. I also like to use it as a step ladder in the kitchen.

If you eat out a lot, then I'd definitely recommend getting a travel highchair of some kind. We went away last weekend and a few of the restaurants didn't have highchairs so Emma spent meals on our laps, trying to swipe our food off the plates and bat at drinks as we took a sip- not ideal when trying to enjoy a meal out!

We don't have the Tripp Trapp but do have the Chicco Polly that TennisGal mentioned. I like that it can be used without the tray at the table like the Tripp Trapp. We also have a super cheap plastic Ikea highchair (Antilop) that we keep at my parents- can use it without the tray at the table too and it's so easy to clean after a messy meal.

We have a tripp trapp - love it but there are very similar chairs that are cheaper. I liked the fact that LO can use it for such a long time, as a regular dining chair when he is much older. I would recommend a booster seat for travelling or eating out.

Tripp Trapper here too! i love it!

Ive had a few highchairs for my kids and this is by far the best, no nooks and crannys where food can hide, just give it a wipe only takes a second. Looks like a piece of furniture and Eden doesnt slouch in it. I found with the others i was taking them apart every other day just to clean them! I remember when my 4 yr old was in a plastic highchair i used to take it in the garden and hose it down all the time! she was that messy lol

for a travel chair we used one of those chicco clamp on ones where they hover lol, they do look a bit scarey but feel really safe
